Mister Mosquito (Mr. Moskeeto in the PAL version, and Ka in the Japanese version) is a video game for the PlayStation 2. Originally released only in Japan, it was later released worldwide.
Made up of a series of stages, which, rather than automatically running through like most other games, must be unlocked in order by completing each previous stage. Through this, the player can choose their own path though the stages; useful for going to any level to collect missed bonus items. Before each stage is a briefing of sorts, detailing the room where the stage takes place, the victim and area(s) on their body from which blood can be sucked, and any prevalent dangers.
The player controls a comical cartoon mosquito ('Mr. Moskeeto') and the goal of the game is to stock up on blood through the summer so that you may survive the winter ahead. To this end Mr. Moskeeto has taken up residency in the house of the Yamada family: father Kenichi enjoys flower arranging, mother Kaneya is a hobby photographer, and teenage daughter Rena is a student whose hobbies include progressive jazz and martial arts.

[edit] Gameplay
The gameplay mostly revolves around one thing: sucking blood from the Yamada family (and Rena's friend Aiaka) while they go about their everyday business. However you can only suck from a certain designated area on the body that will only be available at specific times. Each family member follows a looping set pattern of movements. Through following these movements, the player must fill a quota of blood for each stage (1-3 spherical "tanks).
The challenge in bloodsucking (done by rotating the right analog stick at various speeds) is that each victim has a "stress meter", looking similar to a heart monitor, (displayed at the bottom-left hand corner of the screen). You must make sure that your victim stays as unaware of you as possible by controlling the speed at which you suck, thus keeping a circular marker in a vertical meter in the "blue zone". Sucking too fast or even too slow will increase the victim's stress level, which goes through three colors, signifying their awareness of you: green means you are safe; yellow means you should be wary and ready to stop and take to the air at any time, but you are still okay; red means you should definitely pull out for fear of being swatted. If you are swatted while sucking blood, instant death occurs.
If you are noticed by a victim while flying around, "Battle Mode" begins. In this, the victim tries to attack you through various means (the first few levels just involve swatting with their hands, which is easily avoided, but in later levels, the family members employ insecticide spray and mosquito coils, making is possible to be damaged by merely flying around). To calm them you must hit a number of pressure points, relieving them of tension. Once they are relaxed enough, they return to their business.
The rooms in each stage are fully explorable. Each room has items hidden in obscure places which can increase a number of things: food (such as rice balls) displays various information about the game, pink heart rings increase the maximum number of hearts, and extra tanks which can then be filled during the same stage to increase the chances of surviving through the winter. Health in the game is represented by a number of hearts displayed in the top-left hand corner, similar to the Legend of Zelda games.

- Rena's Room Rena is having a lie down on her bed bored, you can turn her stereo on and turn the lights off on her, both cause her to wake up and wander around, otherwise she'll simply lie there, turning slightly once in a while, once she sits back down you can target a small area on her left leg, just below her shorts.
- Yamada Family Storeroom Kaneyo is searching for a family album, she'll simply move from left to right in front on the boxes, in between those boxes is bright purple poisonous gas, avoid this, once she's walked back one you can target the back of left calf, near the bottom of her trouser.
- TV Room Kenichi is laying watching Television, you can turn it off using the remote, as well as make the telephone buzz and ring a small bell, once disturbed and comfortable again, you'll be able to target a small section on the top of his head, amongst his magnificent combover, this will only be there for a few seconds, so act quick!
- Bathroom Rena is having a nice relaxing bath, but she's sitting with the shower so don't get caught by her or you'll get sprayed! after a minute she'll doze off and a very small area will be targetable just above her naked left breast, but the clock counts down and the longer you take the more steam fills the room, plus popping the bubbles that float around will draw Rena's attention.
- Kitchen Kenayo is cooking dinner, but all she's doing is waiting for a pot to boil, this is the first level to feature multiple target areas, Kenayo has two, she just walks from side to side as she did before in Stage 2, burn her hand and then return to her original position, where she'll stand for a minute and hum, revealing her left sole, the first target area is there, on the heel, the second is on her fourth toe on her right foot, you'll have to be totally above it successfully reach it, otherwise you'll hit the other toes.
- Rena's Room Rena is now doing her martial arts practice, she can't be targeted at all doing this, she's also growing very agitated, having been bitten the most, you can activate her stereo again, though this will only serve to anger her totally, luckily her mobile phone is on the bed, you can make it ring, and while she stands and talks to someone [even though you rang it] you can target her, she has two areas, one on the side of her neck, the other on her the index finger of her left hand.
- The Japanese Room Kenichi is flower arranging, and taking large precautions against Mr Moskeeto, he's surrounded himself with mosquito coils that emit fumes, and covered the floor in repellent, so touching any of those will cause you damage, there is also an air con unit that blows the fumes, Kenichi constantly pricks his finger, after he does the first time, you'll be able to target an area on his lip, after you've drained this area, another area can be targeted on the palm of his left hand, just by the thumb, but he'll only open his hand after he's pricked his finger and only when the air con is blowing, causing you to fly against it to reach the area.
- Rena's Room Aiaka, Rena's friend, is waiting in Rena's room, the most complicated stage, she wanders around in a set pattern, first she'll turn to look at a corkboard and place her hands on her hips one target will only be available when she does, in her left armpit, she will then move a little further forward, then walk over to the stereo, then across to the television next to it, then across the desk by the door, then repeat, she has four target areas, no of which are specified, one is under her armpit, one is on the right side of her back, on the should blade, another is on her right knee, and the final is just above her bellybutton, following her around is pointless, she's faster than you, you can wait for her, or use the stereo to make her come to you there, after this she will drop her glasses, fall on all fours and crawl in a circle around the room searching for them, she will stop momentarily [and it is momentarily] on the corner opposite the door [below the television] where a target will appear on her left eyelid.
- Kenichi and Kenayo's Room the first boss battle, against Kenayo [and the hardest] Kenayo's has two cans of bug spray and is performing martial arts style moves with them, as well as burning a mosquito coil on her dresser, plus part of the air is poisonous, the faint target will only appear momentarily on her stomach before he jumps, but her arms will cross covering it very quickly, the target for sucking her blood is equally difficult to reach, requiring you to fly around her to reach it on her chin
- Rena's Room second boss battle, against Rena, who also has cans of bug spray, she's faster and more athletic than her mom, and donned in a schoolgirl outfit, plus the walls are and floors are covered in repellent! Her faint target is on her forehead, and only appears as she is about to perform a flying, spinning kick. Her target is plainly on her face, just above her right eye
- TV Room Kenichi is carrying spray, and also has a mosquito coil strapped to his head (strange fellow) once again the walls and floors are lined with repellent, and there are cans of bug spray set up around the room to spray you, Kenichi's faint target appears on his forehead just as he's channeling the dark arts to throw at you (a little excessive no?) his target is tricky, positioned on his head, between the mosquito coil, meaning you'll have to dodge the fumes and the coil itself to get there
- The Final Stage The house is on fire (Aiaka has already discovered this and ran for the firemen, don't worry) but despite their apparent peril you must still suck blood from their unconscious bodies. There is smoke rising from the burning building. Things will harm you but the level is simple. Just target the handle on the fires on the door to your right to enter the TV room and suck Kenichi's blood (his target is on his head), exit then fly up the stairs and enter the first door you come to enter Rena's room (her target is on her face) exit and turn left and target the next door, on the same wall as the first, then enter Kenishi and Kaneyo's Room and find Keneyo (her target is placed on her face) target the door handle to leave and complete the game.
[edit] Unlockables
[edit] Colours
You can unlock different colours for your mosquito, there are twelve colours, each unlocked via receiving stunning times in Battles, they are Orange, White, Green, Pink, Red, Yellow, Blue, Dark Green, Green, Burgundy, Light Blue, Purple. Plus there are three bonus costumes 'R' 'M' and 'D' R gives a metallic fly, M gives a disturbing mosquito version of Kenayo and D a similarly worrying mosquito version of Kenichi.
[edit] Reckless Cycle
In addition to extra colors and the "One Year Later" mode, you can unlock a strange mini-game called "Reckless Cycle". It is a 2-player game in which you play as 2 men, who ride bicycles and the object of the mini-game is to knock your opponent off the edge of the arena. It has no apparent relation to Mr Moskeeto or the family. To unlock the game, you must spin the right analog stick 30 times while on the "Press Start Button" screen.
[edit] Reception
Game Informer has named the game one of the top ten weirdest of all time.[1] Mister Mosquito was also on X-Play's list of weird games.
[edit] Sequel
In 2003, a sequel called Ka 2: Let's Go To Hawaii was released in Japan.
