Miss World 1997

The 47th Final of Miss World pageant was held at the Baie Lazare, Seychelles on November 22, 1997. 86 delegates delegates competed for the coveted crown. At the end of the event, India's Diana Hayden came out victorious. Richard Steinmetz hosted the pageant, while Latin sensation Ricky Martin provided entertainment. Miss Botswana, Mpule Kwelagobe went on to win the Miss Universe 1999 pageant after being unplaced at Miss World.

- Cape Verde, and Nepal competed in Miss World for the first time.
- Egypt last competed in 1990.
- Honduras, Malta, and Namibia last competed in 1993.

- Nigeria did not compete in Miss World hecause of sponsorship problems and scheduling conflict.
- Curacao failed to send a delegate in Miss World.

- Eight countries made into the semi-finals after a long-year hiatus: Australia (1995), Lebanon (1975), Malaysia (1994), New Zealand and Turkey (1991), Thailand (1989), United Kingdom (1994), and United States (1993).
- Botswana (Mpule Kwelagobe) won the title of Miss Universe 1999 in Trinidad & Tobago.
- Australia (Laura Csortan) won the Miss Amity award in Miss Universe 1997.
- This is the first time that no Latin American country had made into the semi-finals.
