The 36th Miss World Pageant was held on November 13, 1986 in the Royal Albert Hall, London, UK. The winner was Giselle Jeanne-Marie Laronde (Queen of Americas) from Trinidad & Tobago. Runner up was Pia Rosenberg Larsen (Queen of Europe) representing Denmark and third was Chantal Schreiber from Austria.

- British Virgin Islands, Anthonia Brenda Lewis, died of cancer in 2000.
- Preliminary swimsuits in Miss World 1986 were held in Macau.
- Swaziland made into the semi-finals in Miss World for the first time.
- Two contestants had made into the semi-finals since 1984: Austria, and Colombia
- Nearly half of the semi-finalists had made into the semi-finalists after a long-year hiatus: Costa Rica (1978), Denmark, Philippines, and Trinidad & Tobago (1982), Ecuador (1970), Panama (1979), and Yugoslavia (1983).
- Ireland won the Miss Photogenic award for the third time.
- 77 contestants sang All Over The World as their production number after the introduction of the contestants wearing national costumes.
