Miss World 1985

The 35th Miss World Pageant was held on November 14, 1985 in the Royal Albert Hall, London, UK. The winner was Holmfridur Karlsdóttir (Queen of Europe) from Iceland. Runner up was Mandy Shires representing United Kingdom and third was Brenda Denton (Queen of Americas) from the United States of America.

  • Uganda last competed in 1968.
  • Luxembourg last competed in 1977.
  • St. Vincent & the Grenadines last competed in 1978.
  • Liberia last competed in 1983.

  • Miss World 1985 Parade of Nations is accompanied by the music of Ai No Corrida (Quincy Jones), Working My Way Back To You (The Four Seasons), Flashdance (Irene Cara), Invitations (Shakatak), and When Will I See You Again (The Three Degrees).
  • Zaire became the first semi-finalist in Miss World for her country after she placed as 2nd runner-up in Miss Universe 1985 four months before. She also won the trophy for Queen of Africa.
  • United States was the first non-Latin contestant to receive the award for "Queen of Americas".
  • Bahamas sent a white delegate to Miss World for the first time.
  • Paraguay and Poland made it into the semi-finals for the first time.
  • New Zealand won the "Queen of Oceania" award for the first time.
  • Switzerland, who placed 7th in Miss World, made it into the semi-finals in Miss Universe 1986 in Panama.
  • Malta (Kristine Apap Bologna) competed in Miss Universe 1987 in Singapore.
  • Colombia and Venezuela became well-known actresses in Spanish tele-novelas.
  • Holland, Brigitte Bergman was Miss Intercontinental 1983/1984.
  • Gambia (Georgette Salleh) did not compete in Miss Universe 1985 because of underage, She was replaced by her predecessor, Batura Jallow who was the 1st Runner-Up.
