Miss World 1983

The 33rd Miss World Pageant was held on November 17, 1983 in the Royal Albert Hall, London, UK. The winner was Sarah-Jane Hutt (Queen of Europe) from the United Kingdom. Runner up was Rocio Isabel Luna Florez (Queen of Americas) representing Colombia and third was Catia Silveira Pedrosa from the Brazil.

  • Gambia and Gibraltar won the same award as Miss Amity in Miss Universe 1983, and in Miss Universe 1984.
  • Iceland, Unnur Steinsson, who was the mother of Miss World 2005, Unnur Birna Vilhjalmsdottir,placed as fourth runner-up in Miss World, while Venezuela, Carolina Cerruti Duijm, , who was the daughter of Miss World 1955, Carmen Susana Duijm Zubillaga, failed to put herself into the semi-finals of Miss World.
  • Norway, Karen Elizabeth Dobloug, who placed as semi-finalist in Miss Universe 1983 in St. Louis, MO, failed to make into the semi-finals in Miss World. Austria, Belgium, Holland, and Iceland, who competed in Miss Universe four months before, made into the semi-finals and even in the finals for Iceland in Miss World.
  • This is the first time that the award winners for Africa and Oceania did not make it into the semi-finals.
  • Hong Kong and Malaysia became actresses in box-office movies after they competed in Miss World.
  • Sarah-Jane Hutt of United Kingdom became the fourth British woman to win the Miss World title.
  • Mercedes Stermitz of Austria had a career as a racing driver following Miss World, competing mostly in German series.
  • Titi Dwi Jayati, contestant from Indonesia, now is a singing diva in Indonesia and also being one of the judges of Indonesian Idol for 4 seasons.
