Miss World 1982

The 32nd Miss World Pageant was held on November 18, 1982 in the Royal Albert Hall, London, UK. The winner was Mariasela Alvarez Lebron from the Dominican Republic. The 1st and 2nd runner-ups were Sari Kaarina Aspholm from Finland, and Della Frances Dolan from the United Kingdom who were semi-finalists in Miss Universe four months before.

  • Yugoslavia last competed in 1975
  • Portugal last competed in 1979.
  • Panama, and Paraguay last competed in 1980.

  • Argentina did not attend the Miss World because of ongoing political conflict with United Kingdom, pertaining the dispute in the Falkland Islands.
  • Austria, Rita Isabelle Zehtner, did not compete in Miss World because of personal reasons.

  • Sweden competed in Miss Europe 1983 and placed as 1st runner-up.
  • Cayman Islands and Switzerland won the same awards in the Miss Universe 1982 and 1983 pageants.
  • Seven out of fifteen semi-finalists competed in Miss Universe.
  • Finland, Germany and United Kingdom were semi-finalists in Miss Universe 1982.
  • Ireland and Switzerland competed in Miss Universe 1983 in St. Louis, MO, and placed as 2nd and 3rd runners-up. Spain also competed in Miss Universe and placed as semi-finalist.
  • This is the first time that Bolivia and the Cayman Islands made into the semi-finals.
  • Trinidad & Tobago, who placed 6th in Miss World, competed in Miss Universe 1980 in Seoul, but failed to put her through to the semi-finals.
  • Cally Kwong Mei-Wan of Hong Kong would later have a successful career as a singer in her native country.
