^ Miss USA was held jointly with Miss Universe, and candidates from both pageants were eligible for the special awards
^^ In 1954, Miss Greece Rika Dialina was unable to enter the United States due to passport problems. Effie Androulakaki was sent to replace her. Androulakaki managed to win the award before Dialina's problems were sorted out. Androulakaki withdrew from the pageant after Dialina's arrival; turning down the suggestion from pageant officials that she continue to compete in the contest as "Miss Crete".
^^^ Zaire is now known as Democratic Republic of the Congo.
