• Colombia wins its first Miss Universe crown.

• Miss Colombia, Luz Marina Zuluaga is the very first woman of her country to win the Miss Universe contest, being the only woman of her country who won the contest. Despite that, Colombia had three first-runner up placements in a row (1992-1994) a streak that has been unparalleled in competition history.

• Miss Holland, Corine Rottschafer won the Miss Europe 1957 title and then, she competed in the MU 1958 pageant, being placed between the semifinalists. She also went on to compete in Miss World 1959, placed as the Winner of that pageant in Baden-Baden, Germany.

• Misses Austria and Philippines did not compete. Later, Miss Austria, Hanni Ehrenstrasser, won the Miss Europe 1958 pageant with venue in Istanbul, Turkey.
