Miss Trinidad and Tobago Universe

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Trinidad and Tobago sent out its first Miss Universe delegate in 1963, a year after its independence from the United Kingdom. The women usually range from ages 18 to 28, and are selected from a pageant held in Trinidad and Tobago, where the first place winner is sent to compete in Miss Universe, second place in Miss World.

Trinidad and Tobago was the first country with a woman of African ethnicity to win the Miss Universe competition in 1977. On the 26 May 1999, the Miss Universe pageant was hosted at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre in Chaguaramas, Trinidad. Featuring eighty-four contestants, the winner that year was Mpule Kwelagobe of Botswana.
