Miss Teen USA 1990, the eighth Miss Teen USA pageant, was televised live from Biloxi, Mississippi on July 16, 1990. At the conclusion of the final competition, Miss Oregon Teen USA Bridgette Wilson was crowned by outgoing queen Brandi Sherwood of Idaho.[1]
This was the first year the pageant was held at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi,[2] where it would be held for the following four years. It was hosted by Sandy Duncan and Leeza Gibbons, with music provided by the Gulf Coast Teen Orchestra. Duncan was the first female host of an American beauty pageant.[3]
1990 marked the first year that a state won the pageant for the second time, after Mindy Duncan won in 1988 and the state won the title again in 2003 when Tami Farrell took the crown. No other state has won more than one title.

[edit] Contestant notes
- Nine contestants later won Miss USA state titles, three representing states other than that which they competed for at Miss Teen USA:
- Winner Bridgette Wilson later became a successful actress, and in 1998 became the only Miss Teen USA titleholder to win a Miss Universe Organisation Distinguished Achievement Award. Other winners of the award include: Halle Berry (Miss Ohio USA 1986), Irene Saez (Miss Universe 1981) and Michelle McClean (Miss Universe 1992).
- Claudia Jordan later worked as a Barker's Beauty and suitcase model on Deal or No Deal.
- Susan Barnett is a successful television journalist and anchor person.
[edit] Dolphin controversy
In a pre-taped segment for the pageant telecast on July 2, a small group of delegates was filmed playing with dolphins in a training pool at the Marine Life Oceanarium. This led to a probe by the National Marine Fisheries Service to investigate whether the oceanarium was in violation of its permit by allowing the delegates to swim with the dolphins.[8] It was later decided that the segment would be edited so that it only showed the delegates feeding the mammals.[9]
