Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day is a 2008 romantic comedy film starring Frances McDormand and Amy Adams, based on the 1938 novel by British author Winifred Watson. It was first released in the USA on March 7, 2008.

With the world on the edge of WWII, Miss Pettigrew (McDormand), a governess, has just been fired from her recent client, indicating that she was hard to work with. With very little money, she immediately takes another governess's client, Delysia Lafosse (Adams).

When Miss Pettigrew gets to the apartment, she soon learns that Delysia is seeing three men: 1) a stage producer's son who can give her the leading role in a stage production that will be shown on West End; 2) another who has just gotten out of jail, but to Miss Pettigrew is the perfect gentleman; and 3) a rich socialite who can give her all the money in the world.

As of March 7, 2008, the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reported that 74% of critics gave the film positive reviews, based on 87 reviews.[1] Metacritic reported the film had an average score of 63 out of 100, based on 26 reviews — indicating average reviews.[2]
