[edit] Historical significance

  • The most number of participating nations in the history of the pageant - 61.
  • Mexico wins it's first Miss International crown. It is also the first major title the nation has won since 1991, when Lupita Jones won Miss Universe 1991.
  • Greece placed in the top 3 for the 2nd time in 4 years, last happening in 2004.
  • Chile makes the top 15 for the 3rd time, last happening in 2001. Before it, Chile first placed in 1980.
  • Belarus debuted in the pageant and won 2nd runner up.
  • Indonesia makes the top 15 for the 2nd time, after 30 years of absence. The highest placement of Indonesia was in 1977 when Indri Hapsari Soeharto placed as second runner up.
  • Hong Kong makes the top 15 for the 3rd time after 22 years. Their last placement was in 1985 when Ellen Wong made the top 15. Grace Wong also won Miss Friendship, a title won by Hong Kong for 6 times already, 4th consecutive win too. Her win makes Hong Kong the nation to gather the most Miss Friendship titles at Miss International and the most congenial titles at any international beauty pageant.
  • Korea, Spain, and Puerto Rico makes the cut for 2 years in a row, and Venezuela for 3 years.
  • Japan continues their streak at Miss International and places for the 15th consecutive time.
  • Sri Lanka makes the semifinals for the 3rd time after 43 years, last placing in 1964.

[edit] Contestant notes

  • Alice Panikian, Miss International Canada, declined her participation necause her University did not give her permission to be absent that took longer from her studies. Justine Stewart from Victoria, British Columbia, competed in her place.
  • Dorota Gawron (Poland) Dorota is also Miss Baltic Sea/Scandinavia 2006, Alida Boer (Guatemala) and Teodora Marcic (Serbia) competed at Miss Universe 2007. None reached the semifinals and also failed to qualify in this pageant.
  • Haydil Rivera (Puerto Rico) won Miss Teen World 2005.
  • Miss Sri Lanka, Aruni Rajapakse was suppose to compete in Miss Universe 2007 also representing Sri Lanka. However her name was taken away from the Miss Universe website and Sri Lanka did not compete. The reason is still unknown.
  • For the 10th time only in the history of the Miss Hong Kong pageant, the second runner up does not compete at Miss International. Usually the second runner up of the national pageant competes at Miss International but the organizers of the pageant, TVB chosen Miss Grace Wong Kwan Hing, first runner up of Miss Hong Kong 2007 to compete. The first runner up of the pageant usually competes at Miss World and this is only the 4th time that the first runner up competes at Miss International.
  • After the pageant, delegates were busy taking photos. One of the delegates were Miss Hong Kong, Grace Wong who forget her Miss Friendship award at the pageant after giving the award to a Tokyo Chaperon. She did not realize that until she arrived in Hong Kong and the Miss International Organization has to mail the award back to Hong Kong.
  • Photographers covering the event favored Misses Russia, India, Spain, Brazil, Turkey and Japan. Japan has the reigning Miss Universe 2007 (Riyo Mori), she and the Miss Universe Japan Organization both have boosted beauty pageants in Japan.
  • Miss Japan International 2007, Hisako Shirata crowned her successor, Kyoko Ayamen at same time who competed at Miss International 2007.
  • Yuliya Sindyezeva (Belarus) was 4th runner-up at Miss Europe 2006 and was suppose to compete at Miss World 2007. However due to contracts with Miss International Organization prevent Sindyezeva to compete in Miss World so she will not be in the pageant.
  • Despoina Vlepaki (Greece) won Miss Balkan Beauty Ambassador 2007.

[edit] Important Remarks

  • Serbia participated for the first time as an independent country separate from Montenegro.
  • Indonesia took part in the pageant after 30 years of absence.
  • For the first time in the history of the pageant, there were two deaf and mute contestants, France and Venezuela.
  • Although listed in the official site, contestants from Bahamas, Cameroon, Ghana and Sudan, never made it to the pageant. Vietnam and Congo were the last contestants to arrive, missing the initial press conference; Thailand changed their delegate at the last minute.
  • Israel, a country which did consistently well in the contest, stopped sending delegates in 2006. Israeli organizer Laisha Magazine is planning to send the slot saved for Miss International before to Miss Earth. Same happened to Nicaragua.
  • The Miss International 2007 pageant was supposed to take place in both Japan and China from September 30th to October 28th. Apparently Chinese sponsors backed out of the deal, and the finals will take place in Tokyo, Japan, October 15th.
  • The pageant was held in conjunction with Miss Japan International, which the winner represents Japan in Miss International 2008.
