[edit] 2001 to Date
Although Miss Intercontinental is sometimes claimed to be one of the top Grand Slam pageants in the world of beauty, it remains a low level pageant that struggles to find delegates and host countries to make it a world class pageant as the name suggest, it also suffers from claims over who actually owns the trademark Miss Intercontinental, WBO claims to own in in Europe but another company claims to own it in China.

It's highest number of delegate count was in 2005 in China where they had 61 delegates, since then however they have struggled and had as few as 41 delegates in 2007. The contest has been reduced to going to small islands like the Seychelles and the Bahamas due to a lack of the organisations ability to sell the pageant to major countries, part of the reason seem to be the huge franchise / hosting fee demanded estimated to be in excess of US$500,000.
The pageant also suffers from allegations of predetermined Outcomes and political influence when picking its winners. The winner of Miss Intercontinental does not have any significant or visible role in the world of pageants and is far from an A list celebrity along the lines of Miss Earth [1]Miss Universe[[2] or Miss World[3] the top 3 pageants in the World.
