Miss Egypt
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pantene Miss Egypt, (in Arabic: نتخابات ملكة جمال لمصر) is an Egyptian beauty pageant. The title of Miss Egypt may refer to an Egyptian woman who competes in any of the Big Four pageants. The Pantene Miss Egypt pageant sends its winner to Miss Universe. It is inconsistent how the other pageants get their Egyptian contestants. Antigone Costanda was the only Miss Egypt to win one of the Big Four pageants when she became Miss World in the 1954 pageant. The promoter of the pageant is Pantene and broadcasted by Melody Hits.
Five Miss Egypts have made crossovers. Dalia El Behery became the first crossover when she won the 1990 Miss Egypt Pageant and she was selected to be in both the Miss World 1990 and Miss Universe 1990 pageants. Angie Abdallah became Egypt’s representative at both the Miss International 1999 and Miss Universe 1999 pageants. Heba El-Sisy was Miss Universe 2004 and then went on to represent Egypt at Miss World 2004. Meriam George was Miss Universe 2005 then the next year was a finalist in the Miss Earth 2006 pageant. Elham Wagdi represented Egypt in both the Miss World 2005 and Miss International 2006 pageants.
Egypt boycotted the Miss World pageant, that was held in London, in 1956, and was discontinued until 1988. The reason was to stop all relations with United Kingdom, when British forces in 1956 had jointly invaded the Suez Canal of Egypt.
