The 5th annual Miss Earth pageant took place on October 23rd, 2005 in Quezon City, Philippines. A total of 80 candidates from around the globe took part in the event.

Alexandra Braun Waldeck of Venezuela was crowned by Miss Earth 2004 Priscilla Meirelles as the new Miss Earth.[1]

First time participants include Bahamas, Cambodia, Haiti, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Jamaica, Macau, Mauritius, Mongolia, Niue Island, Pakistan, Romania, Samoa, Slovak Republic, Saint Lucia, Tokelau, Turks and Caicos & Zambia. United Kingdom is technically new, as it was designated in the previous years as "Great Britain".

Numerous contestants appeared in other pageants. Katarzyna Weronika Borowicz of Poland she was 3rd up in Miss World 2004 she also was 3rd runner up in Miss Europe 2006, Tania María Domaniczky Vargas of Paraguay, and Cristina Eugenia Reyes Hidalgo of Ecuador were all contestants on Miss World 2004. Bolivia's Vanessa Patricia Morón Jarzun was in Miss International 2004, while Egypt's Elham Wagdi was in the 2006 edition. Angela Maria Fonseca Spinola of Portugal was in Miss World 2005. El Salvador's Irma Marina Dimas Pineda was previously in Miss Universe 2005.

Miss Earth USA, Amanda Kimmel is also Miss Montana USA 2005, unplaced in Miss USA 2005. By making the top 8, she is the highest placing delegate of the US nation so far in Miss Earth.

Cynthia Kanema of Zambia became the first woman to represent her country in all of the Big Four Pageants: Miss World in 2003, Miss International in 2004, and Miss Universe in 2005, before coming to this pageant. She did not place in any of them.

Paraguay Tania Maria Domanickzy Vargas won Miss Sudamericana 2004.[4][5]
