From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miss Chile for Miss Universe is a beauty contest that has been held every year since 1952 (with some exceptions: 1953, 1957, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1971, 2003, 2007, 2008). The crown of "Miss Chile" submits in an annual contest, qualifying the integral beauty, intelligence, safety and pose of a group of delegates of several cities of Chile; it's said that the winner is the most beautiful woman of Chile. The winner of the title, takes it for one year. The winner takes part later in Miss Universe's international contest.

Belén Montilla, Miss Universe Chile 2006, was chosen on July 05, 2006 under the jury presided over by the designer, José Cardoch, and the organization of Coca Cané. She was 23 years old at the competition and stands 5'11" (1.78). Montilla represented Chile in Miss Universe 2006. She didn't place in the pageant, which was won by Zuleyka Rivera, from Puerto Rico. [edit] National Competition Updates

  • Eduardo Pantoja, owner of the license Miss Chile Universe, has left the franchise. The organization Miss Universe Inc. must analyze who will take the franchise and when it will become effective.

[edit] Trivia

  • The first Miss Chile competition was organized by Eva magazine.
  • Miss Chile Universe 1961, Gloria Silva, had to be the unexpected translator of Miss Francia during the transmission of the Miss Universe 1961, because the french delegate couldn't understand her question. Gloria was a semifinalist this year.
  • Miss Chile 1970, Soledad Errázuriz, competed in the 1969 Miss Chile World pageant, where she came second.
  • The white gown that used Cecilia Bolocco for her coronation as Miss Universe 1987, was designed by the chilean Rubén Campos. In the evening gown competition, Bolocco obtained 9.765 points, overcoming other delegates and assuring her victory.
  • In 1997, Hetu'u Rapu, the representative of Easter Island, won the Miss Chile competition. However, it turned out that she was too young (by only 17 days) to compete in Miss Universe that year. She was replaced by the 1st runner-up Claudia Delpin. Claudia had to use the same wardrobe prepared for Hetu, including the national costume. In spite of it, she managed to stay in the place 13 of the competition.
  • Last time in which the national contest was televised, was the year 2002, with Nicole Rencoret's coronation, transmitted by Canal 13 (UCTV). From 2004 to date, the national contests haven't been transmitted because the organizations haven't come to agreements with the channels of tv.
