Miss Black America (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miss Black America (MBA) are a rock band based in Suffolk, England. Its original line-up consisted of Seymour Glass (voice/guitar), Alistair 'Gish' Gedge (guitar), Mike Smith (bass), Neil Baldwin (drums). In 2002 the band underwent a radical shake-up, replacing all except Glass with Simon Chapple (drums), Mat Anthony (guitar/voice) and Laura Kidd (bass). Dan Smart replaced Simon Chapple in 2005. MBA's self-financed debut single sold out within weeks of release when John Peel pushed the band on BBC Radio One. Rolling Stone writers Michael Krugman and Jason Cohen voted the band's debut album God Bless? Album of the Year 2002. Miss Black America have released records on the Integrity, Repeat Records and Ruby Slippers record labels.

The band went on hiatus in July 2006. Seymour Glass is currently involved with his solo project Open Mouth, and has recently teamed up with former MBA members Neil Baldwin and Mike Smith in new band Ten City Nation. Lead guitarist Mat Anthony has since been involved in drum & bass project Baron Greenback and solo project Mat Hudson, as well as playing for Italian singer songwriter Elena. Laura Kidd plays bass and guitar sessions for established pop and rock acts including Lil' Chris and is recording her debut solo album under the band name She Makes War. She released a dance collaboration with Michael Gray in 2007 called 'Automatic' and has been working with The Young Punx on some electro pop songs due to be released in Japan in 2008.
