Mishler Theatre was opened on February 15, 1906, by Issac Mishler. The theatre is located in downtown Altoona, Pennsylvania Eight months later, the neighboring Rothert building caught fire and quickly spread to the theater, destroying it. The theater was rebuilt and re-opened in 1907.
[edit] Restoration
The current chandelier was purchased in 1970 at a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer auction in Hollywood to replace the original. Most of the original tile work has been replaced. At the most recent estimate, the restoration has cost approximately 1.8 million dollars.[citation needed]
[edit] Ghosts
The theater is said to be haunted by Isaac Mishler and a lady dressed in 1930s period dress who slams toilet seats, doors and turns water on and off in the ladies' bathroom.[citation needed] There is also a dog who howls in the night.
