Mirta Cerra Herrera

Mirta Cerra Herrera (April 23, 1904 in Bejucal, Havana, Cuba - September 26, 1986 in Havana, Cuba) was a Cuban painter.

She studied since 1928 until 1934 in the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes “San Alejandro”,Havana, Cuba and in the Art Students League, New York, U.S.A between 1935-1936.

She was a relevant artist that have in her resume a lot of individuals exhibitions , among then in 1943 "Exposición de Pintura Mirta Cerra".Lyceum, Havana, Cuba . In 1950 she show his works in the Club de las Naciones Unidas, Washington, D.C.,U.S.A. Again in U.S , this time in New York in 1955 she do "Mirta Cerra", Galería Sudamericana. Later in 1983 some of hers works were exhibited under the name "Vida Plena. Pinturas y Dibujos de Mirta Cerra", Galería L, Havana, Cuba.

In a collectives perspective can be quoted Inn 1940,"300 años de arte en Cuba", Universidad de La Habana. In 1951 "Art Cubain Contemporain", Musée Nationale d’Art Moderne, Paris, France. She participates also in the Salón Nacional de Pintura, Dibujo, Grabado, Escultura, Arquitectura y Artes Decorativas y Aplicadas. Segunda Bienal Hispanoamericana de Arte. Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, in 1954. His pieces were included in 1993 in the conmemoration show "San Alejandro. 175 Aniversario". Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba.

During her artistic life she has obteined awards and distintions in 1937 the Bronze Medall. XIX, Círculo de Bellas Artes, Havana. In 1946 the Award in the III Exposición Nacional de Pintura y Escultura. Salón de los Pasos Perdidos, Capitolio Nacional, Havana. In 1951 Silver medall in the. "Exposición de Artes Plásticas Cubanas". Tampa's University Florida, U.S.A. Among many others recognitions.
