Miroslav Verner

Miroslav Verner (born October 31, 1941 in Brno) is a Czech Egyptologist, who wrote the book The Pyramids, which is considered one of the leading books in its field. He also wrote a seminal article in 2001 regarding the chronology and reigns of the 4th and 5th Dynasty Old Kingdom kings in Archiv Orientální.

He was the director of the Czech Institute of Egyptology for seventeen years, and led the Czech excavations at Abusir. He has been excavating at Abusir since 1976. He has also been associated with the Universities of Vienna and Hamburg as well as the Charles University in Prague and the American University in Cairo.
