Miro Steržaj

Miro Steržaj is a Slovene kegeln or 9 pin bowling player and businessman. He was born in Rakek, near Postojna on 28 February 1933.

He moved to Ljutomer when he was 17 years old. From 1950 to 1962 he played in KK Ljutomer. Then he went to a bowling club in Maribor named KK Branik. In 1974 he came to Radenci where he stayed to the present. In 1964 he became the absolute European champion, which means that he won individually, in pairs and in the team (Yugoslavian national team). In 1968 he became World champion in the individual category. With Nikola Dragaš he competed on the World championship three times in pairs and they were always second.

In 1955 he began to work at a creamery in Ljutomer named Mlekopromet. He was commercial director for 12 years, then he became director. In 1993 he retired. Then he become secretary of the Economic association of milk production (GIZ mlekarstva). In 2003 he retired from work totally.

From 1988 to 1992 he was mayor of Ljutomer.

He is honorary citizen of Ljutomer. He became the Bloudek prize for his sport results, and the Kraigher prize for his business efforts.
