Miriam Barr

Miriam Barr (1982—) is a New Zealand page and performance poet.

She is one of the original members of The Literatti, an Auckland-based performance poetry group started in 2006.[1] Barr became creative director for the group in 2007.[2]

Her poetry has appeared in Black Mail Press 18 & 21,[3] Tongue in Your Ear 8 & 9, the De-Formed Paper & Magazine 5.

She has published two volumes of poetry, Tangents, 2006 (now out of print) and Observations from the Poetry Factory, 2007.[4][5] Both of these books were released with CDs of Barr's poetry set to music.

In 2007 Barr created the free poetry zine Side Stream, which she continues to edit.[6]

Barr is part of Auckland's Poetry Live organising team, along with Christian Jensen, Ila Selwyn and Renee Liang. Poetry Live has been a gathering point for the Auckland poetry community since the late 1970's.[6]

Barr was the winner of the 2007 Auckland Writers and Readers Festival's Poetry Idol slam. She has performed widely, including at AK07,[7] the 2007 Ubud Readers and Writers Festival,[8] the Dunedin Fringe Festival, the Parihaka International Peace Festival, Montana Poetry Day, the Parnell Festival of Roses and the Whangarei Midwinter Arts Festival.[9]
