[edit] The Artemis Fowl WikiProject

Hi. In the last month I have discovered the Artemis Fowl WikiProject and have slowly but surely been making progress. I have, however, noticed that no one else seems to be doing anything. So, it's as simple as this. Respond to this message, or your name gets removed from the participants list and I assume leadership of the WikiProject, because I will actually get something done. You have exactly 1 week, or 7 days, or 168 hours. They all mean the same thing.

However, please know that this is nothing personal against you. This is a generic message sent to every person on the participants list. Thanks for your co-operation. -007bond aka Matthew G aka codingmasters 10:46, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Welcome!

Hello, Minglex, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!  -- Francs2000 11:52, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Seen the newest irreverent edits on The Latymer School? Now I finally know how the strike happened. --AdamM 18:22, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Fantastic! I wonder who is the vigilante editor in search of the truth? By the way, nice detective work finding me! --Minglex 18:34, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Not too difficult, thanks to Nick Worth and your artistic additions to his user page. --AdamM 19:42, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Haven't you heard about WP:AUTO? --AdamM10:20, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words on my user page! I will move them to my talk page, but I appreciate it :) Nach0king 00:56, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists

Please don't create duplicate articles. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:34, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

  1. You mustn't move articles from one title to another by cutting and psting the contents; that loses the edit History. Moves must be done using the "Move" button.
  2. The title you're trying to change to is poor English; we normally insist on correct punctuation and capitalisation, even if publishers, record companies, etc., don't. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 18:41, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Although most often used as full stops, exclamation and question marks can stand in for any stop, including commas and semi-colons. The exclamation mark is ungrammatical here in any case ("The Pirates" is clearly not an exclamation), but given that it's there, it must be acting as a comma at most, as "in an adventure with scientists" can't grammatically follow anything else; it's not a complete sentence or even a complete clause. Prepositions shouldn't be capitalised unless they start or end a sentence. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 19:07, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Oldcoatofarms.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Oldcoatofarms.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. CLW 09:43, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Oldcoatofarms.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Oldcoatofarms.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. CLW 09:43, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Picture of Jimbo

Hi, I took and uploaded the new picture of Jimmy Wales on his user page. I mentioned to him that I didn't like the picture on his page and volunteered to take a new one. He said he had been meaning to get a better picture, and agreed to let me take a new one. I don't know if he has seen it yet or not, but I think it should be his call whether to keep it or revert to the old one. -- Samuel Wantman 19:50, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for the misunderstanding. As I did not see the vandalism, it appeared as though people were reverting to the older photo. When a picture looks like vandalism, vandal patrollers need to check if the picture has been vandalized or the page has been vandalized. In your case, you reverted the wrong one. Once the offending image was removed, it is very difficult to know what your intentions were unless they were explained in the edit comment or a comment on a talk page. Your only comment was that you were reverting. Yes, I should have assumed good faith, but then so should have you. -- Samuel Wantman 20:20, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Remember this? It's been unprotected at long last. I've gathered community consensus for an indefinite ban on ZoeCroydon, aka DebbieatCNBC, aka 147.114.226.175, etc. etc, and all edits by him/her should now be reverted on sight without worrying about 3RR or AGF or any of the rules the vandal has been sadly successful in gaming. [edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Booshyetti.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Booshyetti.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:Homepagebadge4.gif

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Homepagebadge4.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:11, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

If you are still interested in participating in the work of the Project, please add your name to the active list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarize yourself with the current work. On behalf of the Project, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you have left, then you will have been gone for at least two months, so your name will be removed from the list, and the list will become a single list of only active editors. If you decide to return, please comment on the talk page. Happy editing, The Artemis Fowl Project Coordinators'.

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Homepagebadge4.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Homepagebadge4.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:49, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
