In the fictional world of Pokémon, every Pokémon creature has a species type in its Pokédex entry. It should be noted that species type is completely different from the Pokémon's actual species – for example, in Pikachu's case, Pikachu is the species and Mouse Pokémon is the species type. Species type does not affect gameplay. Species type often changes in the course of each Pokémon's evolutionary path.
