[edit] Creatures

I recently created an article on Greasels, which all of the Deus Ex players out there will know is a creature from the game, and I am considering creating a link on this page to my article on Greasel. This page however lists only human (and AI) characters, it does not contain any other creatures or life-forms present in the game, such as Karkians, Grays, Greasels, or the dogs (dobberman i think) used by the NSF. I am unsure as to whether I should put a link on this page to mine, maybe a separate article for Deus Ex creatures should be made? Does anyone have suggestions?--Mohamo 09:26, July 13, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Organisations and other Characters

There are many more organisations in the game, what about the Rooks in the New York Subways, or the Mole People, VersaLife (which is a division of Page Industries), Luminous Path, Red Arrow, or FEMA? There are lots of other characters in the game if you pay attention, for example the NSF leader that JC Denton captures on Liberty Island at the start of the game is known as Leo Gold. What about the guy you rescue from MJ-12 for Smuggler? Sorry I can't remember his name. And also the undercover reporter Joe Greene? Shouldn't they also be in this article? I'm sure there are many other characters I have forgot to mention.--Mohamo 09:48, July 13, 2005 (UTC)

Also, don't forget Lucius DeBeers.
No info on Stanton (was that his name?) Dowd? --El Zilcho 13:14, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
Stanton Dowd, Illuminati member. Operates from the family mausoleum underneath a graveyard. Former owner of the PRCS Wallcloud, a superfreighter now under MJ-12 ownership. Infected with the Grey Death, still keeps in touch with old acquaintances. CABAL 17:43, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Anna Navarre

A recent edit suggests she helped break up Al-Qaeda in the past. Is this just BS? Or is something mentioned in Invisible War? After all, DX came out before most people ever knew of Al-Qaeda.--DooMDrat 17:29, 19 October 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I'm removing the statement. A search of the 'net turned up nothing useful. Like I said, Al-Qaeda wasn't in the headlines much until a year after the game was released. I also removed the bit about MOSSAD. The only english page found via google that mentioned her being in MOSSAD was fan-fiction.--DooMDrat 08:30, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

The player -has- to kill Anna Navarre either in the Subway station or UNATCO; I don't think there's a way to have her alive all the way to the end of the game. --Penwhale | [[User talk:Penwhale|Blast the Penwhale]]

"The player -has- to kill Anna Navarre either in the Subway station or UNATCO." Not quite, she can be killed in 747 as well. Allows you to recieve extra information from Lebedev. -GW

Well, there is...but it's very obvious that that the designers didn't intend this. And besides, Warren Specter stated in an interview some odd years ago that you have to kill three people in the game. Technically you don't have to kill Gunther either, but it's a trick.
On the contrary, it's clear that the designers DID intend for you to be able to kill Anna in the 747, because Alex responds to that action by telling you (via comlink) that he'll wipe the mission logs to cover for you. That's something they had to code into the game as a scripted response. --PhoenixVTam (talk) 04:41, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Actually form what i have heared you don't even need to kill her at all. just thows some gas grenades at her and she run off opening the door.(i had not tested it yet however)Joeyjojo 15:54, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry but the part about anna navarre's israely accent must go down. As an israely with russian connections i must emphasize her accent is russian and so is her name. --UVnet 08:56, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

What IS all this about Anna Navarre having to die? There is not a single person in the entire game that has to die! You can just shoot Anna with tranq's or stun her with the prod! Using any of those two teqhniques, she doesn't die! She's unconsious! But, as a fan of the storyline, i always kill her. That is the way that the "true" storyline goes, with Gunther making JC his nemesis as a payback for JC killing his one true love and friend. 20 Mars, 2006.

[edit] NPOV

Is it just me or is the Gunther Hermann section a bit patronising?--Codenamecuckoo 11:31, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Lucius DeBeers

Does he belong under antagonists? In that pod, he can't do much of anything, antagonistic or otherwise. In no way does he work against you.--DooMDrat 06:35, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

So where do you propose we put him? Allies? Like you say, he does nothing.--Codenamecuckoo 11:13, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
Probably. He does ask you to shut off his life support under certain circumstances. Hell, if Leo Gold rates as an ally...--DooMDrat 11:22, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Complete overhaul

I think the categories in this article aren't very useful. Where do we put people like Lucius DeBeers? Maybe we have "UNATCO employees", "NSF members", "Illuminati members", "Various Allies" and "Various Villains"? Or something.--Codenamecuckoo 08:51, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

I'm also pointing out that the original articles of a few of the character sections here still remain. Shouldn't they removed if you are going to combine all the characters into one page?--Mohamo 11:12, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

Point out which ones, and we can merge and redirect. I got things to do right now, instead of article hunting.--DooMDrat 11:27, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
This thing needs more than a complete overhaul, but a near complete rewrite. The character bios are flawed beyond belief and certainly have more POV's than are justifiable. Some characters contain the incorrect information, while others contain irrevelant information. An example being this quote: "The character is very obviously based on the scientist/triad-leader Dr. X from Neal Stephenson's book The Diamond Age." Is this conjecture or is it fact? I've not read Mr. Stephenson's book, so it wouldn't be obvious to me, so therfor, I would consider this a POV. And the Gunther Hermann bio is messy at best. I'd take the time to overhaul it, but I don't have the time right now. Though to the person who compiled all the information, you've got a hell of a good start. [edit] Gunther

Gunther and Batou do not look that simialer. The only thing they have in common is that they are large men in a cyberpunk setting. Gunther is bald, with blue lines all over him and is German. Batau has white/gray hair, and fake eyes.

[edit] Philip Mead

Philip Mead is not a UNATCO employee. I have removed him.

[edit] Private Llyod

If you kill him, it reads "Private Llyod". --Onias 20:38, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Image:Privatellyod.jpg
This was taken during the second escape. This was from a while back (I was stunned it was Llyod myself!) so I can't prove it was during the second escape with Hermann's infolink conversation. I can if people are anal about it, I'm that obsessive.
Fair enough, although you should have removed the entire section, as the sentence about JC being captured by Hermann now has no place in Lloyd's description. I'll remove it. I've never actually killed anybody during the escape, I suppose I should explore ALL avenues before re-writing an entire Deus Ex page, eh? Gamer Junkie 21:01, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
You're telling me, I usually stealth kill or knock out everybody. It's only now that I'm sneaking past, no casualties. It's actually more fun. Oh yeah, my edit was a quick fix, thanks for taking up the slack.--Onias 21:19, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
No problem. One day I'll get through the entire page, so long as people don't keep adding half-a-dozen characters a month. Gamer Junkie 21:31, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Original research, speculation and out-right bullshit

A lot of this article seems to be either invented by the contributer or possibly taken from fan-fiction works, which obviously isn't canon and therefore needs to be removed. If anyone else wants to improve this article, as well as Major Deus Ex characters can you please add requests for citation tags where appropriate by adding {{fact}} after any suspect statements made in the article, and deleting any disputable statement if no citation is given after a few days. It would also be helpful if any editors contributing new information remember to include citations too. - 81.178.102.118 22:25, 15 October 2006 (UTC) Haha, yeah, like it took me several months to come up with all of this shit myself. I gathered most of this info from sites with descriptions and bios regarding these characters that filled in the blanks regarding their backgrounds and personalities. You wanna take it out? Because there isn't going to be much of anything about many of these characters aside from a couple of lines of text without it. Then wait a few months and you'll see what "original research" really is when every person who has something to add decides to do so. Maybe you should go way back to before I began repairing this page to see what it was like to begin with. almost entirely nothing but poorly written, half-arsed descriptions by fifteen-year-olds with only a couple of dedicated editors trying to maintain it. Take this into account before you decide to wipe half the article, because that's what it'll look like once you leave an opening that doesn't link one point to another properly. Gamer Junkie 05:04, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the second citation needed tag on Jordan Shea, I killed her in the game and she did explode. I have no idea how to cite that as a source, however. --Miguel Cervantes 22:08, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
She exploded? That's a surprice to me. She doesn't explode when I'm playing, she (as an NPC) doesn't even have a code to do so. Maybe that depends of the game's version? --84.40.192.172 18:57, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Are you American? I find that U.S. video game releases appear to be much more strongly censored than other areas of the world. But, yes, she has exploded both times that I have killed her as well. It makes sense, as she is a former member of UNATCO's mech-aug unit. Maybe it's just the PlayStation 2 release? Gamer Junkie 19:02, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm Pole and I own PC Deus Ex:GOTY Edition. Here is the proof for what I'm saying: http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/3449/jordannotexplodedao7.jpg . I think, that UNATCO should have removed her exploding device after she stopped working for them. What if she had a heart attack in a crowd? The blast would be more devastating than an average terrorist attack. A distinction between game versions would be advisable, in my opinion. --87.105.100.69 21:44, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Helios?

Minor? Since when is Helios a minor character? I would say that any character who plays a major role in the game's ending is anything but minor.--Codenamecuckoo 10:57, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] President

Where did Meads picture come from?

Likely from a system file. All character models are present in those, even very minor characters. They needed Mead's character model to create the pictures of him that you see hanging all over the UNATCO building. Gamer Junkie 07:32, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sandra Renton at the abandoned petrol station

Does anybody know if this is true or if it's just vandalism? No matter how many times I play this game, there always seems to be another section of the story I haven't seen. Gamer Junkie 05:54, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

It is true. I remember her saying in that scene, "I'll walk to Eugene if I have to." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.51.230.66 (talk) 22:49, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
