Talk:Minnesota State Highway 3
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] From zappa's talk page
Welcome to the Minnesota State Highways project. I noticed that you edited Minnesota State Highway 3 to mention that it terminates in downtown St. Paul. Actually, it now terminates at Minnesota State Highway 110 in Inver Grove Heights. The part of South Robert Street in West St. Paul and the west side of St. Paul is no longer signed as a state highway. (If you're really into trivia, that part of South Robert Street is an unmarked state highway, Trunk Highway 952A. I believe the Ramsey County section was turned back to Ramsey County, while they haven't reached a turnback agreement with Dakota County yet.) For more information, check out Highway 3 on Steve Riner's page, as well as the unmarked routes section on Steve Riner's page. --Elkman - (talk) 04:17, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, I live like four blocks away from the highway. I changed the article to reflect it ending in Saint Paul, but I see you noticed. If it is necessary, I will go down to Robert north of 494 and take some pictures of state highway signs denoting it as Highway 3. You also can look on Mapquest or Google Maps, and it remains Highway 3 north of 494. Cheers to figuring it out! -zappa.jake (talk) 04:24, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I wasn't able to go down and take any pictures, but I see that you haven't reverted my changes, which I appreciate. Did you look at Mapquest or Google Maps? Thanks, and feel free to follow up with any other questions. Later, zappa.jake (talk) 03:21, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- I was out mountain biking with a couple friends this afternoon, at Salem Hills Park in Inver Grove Heights. (Or is it Harmon Park? They're changing the name from one to the other.) Anyway, after we got done, I drove north a short distance on South Robert Trail past MN-110. There is indeed a sign saying "End Minnesota 3" north of MN-110 just before Mendota Road, by one of the car dealerships. We made a U-turn at the intersection and there's a sign on the other side saying, "Begin Minnesota 3". There's a picture of the northern terminus at AJFroggie's site. Steve Riner's page also says that MN-3 ends at I-494. I checked out Google Maps and it indeed shows MN-3 continuing on South Robert Trail to downtown St. Paul, but this appears to be incorrect given the signage. --Elkman - (talk) 04:12, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- Tomorrow I am calling up MnDOT for information about getting a motorcycle permit. While on the phone with them, I will ask them what the official northern terminus of 3 is. If I don't post something here by tomorrow night, remind me and I will write it all over my hand to call them! Thanks, zappa.jake (talk) 04:16, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, you probably want to talk to Driver and Vehicle Services about a motorcycle permit. Don't expect to get through quickly -- the last time I tried calling them, I had to keep trying because the line was busy all the time. --Elkman - (talk) 13:11, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- I called the MnDOT reference library today, and they said I needed to call the Department of Public Safety about the motorcycle permit. I'll check their website, and then call them if necessary. Anyways, the guy at the reference library said that Highway 3 officially ends at I-494, but that it used to run to downtown Saint Paul. The Robert Street portion is now decomissioned and operated by the respectful cities, but he said that there still may be signs up "advertising" it as Highway 3. I'll post this conversation on the talk page, and update the article with relevant information. Thanks! -zappa.jake (talk) 20:53, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
