Because in IEC 60950 also mentioned to use petroleum spirits as marking durability test solven, so I like to make sure if mineral spirit is exectly the one!219.87.155.2 09:55, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

I started the article, since nothing in Wikipedia linked Mineral Spirits to Petroleum Spirit (and it doesn't exist yet). An old chemist told me they were the same. White Spirit may be a kind of Mineral Spirits, or vice versa. I hope someone with more intimate knowledge comes along & makes additions and corrections. 11.1.05 MLB.

White spirit is the British English name for mineral spirits. How about we all agree that we don't mention on the more public side of this page that hexane, the major component of mineral spirits, is what kids who sniff glue are after, and that artist grade mineral spirits contain hexane in almost pure form. --Metzenberg 19:46, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
