[edit] Bark the Polarbear
- For information about this character in the games, see here
He and Bean first appeared prominently in issue #160 of the Archie [1] Sonic the Hedgehog comic-having made a cameo appearance in issue #50 fighting alongside another obscure Sega character named Astal, the protagonist of a game of the same name-where they attacked Sonic and the other Freedom Fighters on Sonic's birthday, but Bark found himself outnumbered and surrenders to Fiona Fox.
Bark used to be part of a mercenary group which included Fiona and Bean and was led by Nic the Weasel. Later, he was one of several criminals to be captured in a sting operation that involved Rouge the Bat allegedly having the Master Emerald up for auction. While not informed beforehand of the deception, the Freedom Fighters-specifically Sonic, Sally Acorn, Antoine D'Coolette, and Bunnie Rabbot-were drawn to investigate. Despite working together with Bean and making use of Extreme Gear, Bark was defeated after a brief battle and taken to jail; his new cellmates included Bean, Nack the Weasel, Mammoth Mogul, and Ixis Naugus.
Bark was imprisoned even more thoroughly when Dr. Eggman launched a devastating attack on Knothole that resulted in all but a handful of the village's inhabitants being captured, though was freed when the survivors-Sonic, Knuckles the Echidna, Tails, NICOLE and Amy Rose-mounted a rescue mission following the assault. Transported to the city of New Mobotropolis, he declared his new allegiance to Mammoth Mogul, only to be once again sent to prison by NICOLE. Bark, like the rest of his cellmates, soon enjoyed a bit of entertainment when unresolved issues between Sonic and Tails broke to the surface and the two turned their dispute into a fist fight.
When Mammoth Mogul coerced his freedom, Bark was among those the villain took with him upon his departure. Later Bark and Bean worked with Mogul and the Destructix to get Sonic's shoes. However, during the battle Sally convinced them to work for her by giving them more money than Mogul was paying them and a cleaner record.[2] They freed Sonic who was at the mercy of the Destructix with only to be thwarted by Sleuth Dawg's ace up his sleeve, Nack the Weasel who stunned Sonic and handed him over to the Destructix to take to Mogul. Having failed their mission they decided to go back to their original one, despite the pleas from Sally, leaving her at Nack's mercy, (although Bark does show guilt about leaving).
In contrast to Bean, Bark is straightforward and silent - in fact, he's never spoken a word in any of his appearances. Despite this, his expressions show that he sometimes becomes exasperate with Bean's actions.
[edit] Bean the Dynamite
- For information about this character in the games, see here
His first appearance a cameo in the series' 50th issue (#160) where he and Bark were shown fighting Overlanders, Bean's first prominent role in Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comic was when he and Bark were hired by Dr. Eggman to attack and eliminate Sonic on his birthday. Having previously been offended by Scourge the Hedgehog during the Anti-Freedom Fighter's impersonation of his heroic counterpart, Bean was more than willing to take on the job, using his explosives to blast into the Freedom Fighter headquarters near Knothole City. Together, he and Bark proved a formidable challenge for the Freedom Fighters, up until the moment where Bean jumped out of the window after Fiona Fox's thrown keys, and the Duck with an apparent fetish for shiny objects was later knocked out by Shadow the Hedgehog.
Like Bark, Bean used to be part of a mercenary band led by Nic the Weasel. Together with Bark, Nack the Weasel, Mammoth Mogul, and Ixis Naugus, he was captured and imprisoned after falling into a trap disguised as an auction of the Master Emerald. He and Bark arrived in response to the fake advertisements riding on Extreme Gear, which they apparently acquired after deserting a mysterious armada (one also mentioned by the Babylon Rogues, and possibly the Battlebird Armada). Despite the equipment, the two were defeated by Sonic and Antoine D'Coolette and imprisoned. Bean was then further incarcerated when Eggman took him and all but a few of the inhabitants of Knothole prisoner, but he was quickly liberated when the survivors mounted a swift and effective rescue mission.
Unfortunately, once in New Mobotropolis, he was again imprisoned with his fellow convicts after joining Mammoth Mogul's new group-though Bean actually seemed to find the experience fun. Aside from his joining in on the jeers when Sonic and Tails fought each other in the cell block where he and the others were held (most notably his shout of "That was awesome! How do your glutes feel?" after Sonic was flung into a wall), Bean did nothing criminal other than to display an obvious desire for King Elias Acorn's crown-yet another shiny object.
When Mammoth Mogul finally coerces his freedom, he takes Bean and the other prisoners with him. As they vanish, Bean calls to Sonic "I promise I'll write! Every day!" Later Bean and Bark worked with Mogul and the Destructix to get Sonic's shoes. However, during the battle Sally convinced them to work for her by giving them more money than Mogul was paying them and a cleaner record.[2] They freed Sonic who was at the mercy of the Destructix only to be thwarted by Sleuth Dawg's ace up his sleeve, Nack the Weasel, who stunned Sonic and handed him over to the Destructix to take to Mogul. Having failed their mission they decided to go back to their original one, despite the pleas of Sally, leaving her at the mercy of Nack the Weasel.
Bean's behaviour is eccentric, eager, easily delighted and distracted, and near psychotic. He's often oblivious to danger and disregards safety (his own or that of others), obsesses over shiny objects, and tends to make odd observations and comments, even at inappropriate times.

[edit] Black Death
Black Death is a Cat sorcerer whom Knuckles the Echidna met during his search for the Sword of Acorns. The Ancient Walkers described him as "standing alone", meaning that he does not team up with other magic users as or more powerful than himself. His only companion is a rather weaker magician known as the Enchantress, a Rabbit whom he may or may not be romantically attached to given their alliance.
Formerly a resident of Angel Island's Forbidden Zone, Black Death attacked Knuckles when the Guardian came looking for him, keeping him off balance with dark magic attacks long enough for the Enchantress to place a spell of domination upon Knuckles. The two then used Knuckles as their slave for some time, until Sir Connery arrived to capture them as part of his mission from the Ancient Walkers. Knuckles, broken free of the spell over him, faced off with Black Death and managed to trick him with some sleight of hand-no doubt learned from his mentor Archimedes the Fire Ant-and knocked him unconscious. Connery then took the defeated sorcerer and the Enchantress away, possibly later slaying them as he did their fellow dark magic wielders Mathais Poe and Damocles the Elder.

[edit] Car-Heem
A collector and scientist who travels the galaxy looking for specimens of species, Car-Heem is one of the red-eyed, silvery blue-armored giants of the Planet Weeet. During his travels, Car-Heem ended up on Mobius, where he broke up a battle between Dr. Robotnik and the Freedom Fighters and pulled them all up to his ship for study. Far from having any moral issues with the abduction, Car-Heem felt that he was in the right and that his captives were all inferior races. He also was fascinated by the interdependent attitude of the Freedom Fighters, which they displayed more than the normal amount of by claiming that Robotnik was one of them, because his species was trained to live alone in space.
Trapped in Car-Heem's observation tank, which he had modified to duplicate the appearance and qualities of the Great Forest, the Freedom Fighters and Robotnik were forced to join forces to escape. Robotnik, much to his dismay, was forced to act the part of a Freedom Fighter in order to fool Car-Heem. Concocting a plan to trick Car-Heem into opening the tank, Sonic played dead while the Freedom Fighters boarded a vehicle Robotnik had constructed. When Car-Heem opened the tank, Sonic ran inside his large uniform and began running around to distract him. Robotnik, unfortunately, proved himself to be as evil as ever, opening the ship's door to send Car-Heem and Sonic into space.
Fortunately, Car-Heem and Sonic were protected by Car-Heem's uniform, and Rotor the Walrus was able to save them both using the same umbilical vacuum that Car-Heem had used to capture the Mobians. Grateful to the Freedom Fighters for saving his life, Car-Heem turned over a new leaf and promised to change his ways and collect only non-living things. He also admitted that he had proven himself an "inferior lifeform" by treating species different from his own as though they were insects by comparison. Car-Heem returned the Freedom Fighters and Robotnik to Mobius before setting out in search of new items for his collection-in a nod to the series, he suggested that he would seek out "intergalactic comic books."
During A.D.A.M.'s gathering of all the Chaos Emeralds in the galaxy, it was revealed that Planet Weeet is home to the Cyan Emeralds, all of which were brought to Mobius and then transported to the Zone of Silence and combined into a single gem.
[edit] Carl, Jeff, and Konor
A trio of Weasels who worked for Nack the Weasel. Carl, Jeff, and Konor joined Nack in his kidnapping of Sally Acorn, holding her hostage in hopes of getting a ransom for her safe return. However, the gang was thwarted by Sally's ingenuity in fooling their leader and by the subsequent arrival of the other Freedom Fighters. All four Weasels were arrested, but when Nack was next seen, Carl and the others were nowhere to be seen. Following another escape from prison coinciding with that of the Destructix, Nack apparently decided to poison his old lackeys to make sure that no loose ends remained.
- Carl, Jeff, and Konor were never named during their appearance in the comic, but the names were given in a story script. They are named for the writer, artist, and inker of their debut arc respectively.[3]
[edit] Damocles the Elder
Damocles was a dark magician and alchemist who never truly showed up in the comic. A fellow wizard of Damocles', Mathais Poe, used his own magic to turn the Sword of Acorns into a replica of Damocles showing a goat in wizard robes that he used to amplify his magical power. The replica served him briefly by allowing him to create a golem to attack Knuckles, but the timely efforts of Archimedes allowed the Echidna to defeat the raven and reveal the replica's true form. Sir Connery would later state he had slain Damocles.
[edit] Deadline
Featured in an "off-panel" story of the Archie comics, Deadline was a Grim Reaper-esque figure who appeared and used the power of his Horror Glass to slowly devolve the story back to little more than a synopsis. In the story, Deadline was a crazed fan who sent in a number of absurd comic ideas which, of course, were never used, and came to take revenge. However, JG-the comic book character version of one of the comic's staff-called upon the talents of every staff member in the comic's history to defeat Deadline and restore everything to normal.
[edit] Dingoes

[edit] Doctor Droid
Doctor Droid is a giant, towering and powerful cyborg lifeform from outer space who created a large army of robots to do his bidding (Droid himself bears some resemblance to the late Dr. Robotnik). Droid and his army came to Mobius 20 years after the events of the series, and declared war on the restored Kingdom of Acorn, bombarding the restored-Mobotropolis and Droid's troops besieging the Royal Palace. Sonic, now King, remained behind to face the enemy and allow Sally, now Queen, to take their two children Sonia and Manic and retired-King Maximillian and escape in a transport pod to a far away location. Sonic most likely escaped and rejoined his family at a later time. Meanwhile, Droid and his army attacked Echidnaopolis on Angel Island, raising most of the city to the ground, in the hopes of securing the Master Emerald. However, a now-battle hardened Knuckles summoned his inherited Chaos abilities and destroyed Droid and his army.
- Doctor Droid was supposed to be featured in the upcoming "Mobius: 20 Years Later" series in Knuckles the Echidna comics, and the character and hints of the storyline were seen in Knuckles #25 (in Locke's dream) and Sonic Super Special #11 (in Sally's vision with the Source of All), though it was cancelled after the Knuckles series was cancelled as well, in favour of "Mobius: 25 Years Later". Also it would have revealed the possible future storyline in "Sonic: In Your Face" would have been the true future of Sonic, and as such wasn't shown, as the series's writers have decided not to show the final true future of the characters until the end of the series itself.
[edit] Downtown Ebony Hare
Downtown Ebony Hare was a rabbit, mafia boss appearing in Knuckles comic series (issues 13-15, "The Chaotix Caper"). A hardcore, straight up mobster like character, Ebony Hare rarely fought himself and always operated through his henchmen. Ebony Hare is followed by a muscle bound, slick dressed bulldog named Blackjack, and has a sexy female fox named Foxxy always at his side. He first appeared after longtime Chaotix foe, Renfield the Rodent reopened an amusement park previously shutdown by Sonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles the Echidna, and the Chaotix.
Renfield was selling a highly addictive (and poisoning) sauce on his amusement park's food supply, and Ebony Hare was concerned he was "killing the market". After "convincing" Renfield to make a deal with him, The Chaotix arrived at the amusement park investigating Charmy Bee's friend's (Mello) death due to the sauce . All of the Chaotix were later hospitalized after tasting sauce except for Julie-Su. She later tried to enter Ebony Hare's gang but failed and was almost killed by being thrown off a building by Blackjack.
Ebony Hare was about to close up shop for fear of the Chaotix's visit bringing the police. However the Chaotix had tracked him down anyway along with the assistance of Sgt. Remington and dingo cab driver, Harry. The Chaotix and Remington arrested Blackjack and Foxxy while Ebony Hare was detained by Espio the Chameleon when he tried to kill Julie-Su with a revolver. Downtown Ebony Hare was afterwards seen being hauled away by Remington's Echidna police force in a wagon; he has not been seen since.
[edit] Eel Capone
Obviously based on the famous mobster Al Capone, Eel Capone is an undersea crime boss who briefly tangled with the Forty Fathom Freedom Fighters. Capone, who proved so formidable that he drove Robotnik's sub-boss Octobot from his territory, used his "Hired Mussels" to subdue several of the Freedom Fighters and take over most of the area. However, he was defeated when Bottlenose, a dolphin, used his "ninja" skills to defeat him and send him packing.
[edit] Enchantress
A Rabbit magic user whose real name was never said, the Enchantress is apparently among the weaker of the dark arts practitioners on Mobius. Her only real power is domination, in which she uses her eyes to place a spell of obedience upon unwitting victims. The Enchantress' powers are low enough that she was accepted as an ally by Black Death, a Cat sorcerer who preferred not to associate with magicians who could rival his own strength. Whether or not their alliance was more than convenience was never made clear.
The Enchantress used her domination powers against Knuckles, forcing him to wait on her and Black Death hand and foot after he came into their territory on a quest to find the Sword of Acorns. Knuckles was able to determine that she was the weaker of the two, and the timely arrival of Sir Connery allowed him to break free of her control. Defeated, the Enchantress was taken away as a captive by Sir Connery along with Black Death; their fate is unknown, but presumably they were killed as part of Connery's quest to eliminate wielders of dark magic.
[edit] EVE (Exceptionally Versatile Evolvanoid)
E.V.E. was an artificial intelligence created by Dr. Robotnik for the sole purpose of killing Sonic the Hedgehog.[4] In addition to being composed of nanomachines that were able to morph and adapt after each defeat, Dr. Robotnik outfitted E.V.E. with a DNA sample taken from Sonic himself (a quill taken from the hedgehog's hide), as well as organic material from Robotnik's own brain. These separate DNA patterns were meant to give E.V.E. Robotnik's genius in combination with Sonic's ingenuity. E.V.E.'s original form is that of a state-of-the-art, jetpack-wearing SWATbot, but upon being scrapped by Sonic, it transforms into something suitable to counter Sonic's speed: a giant hornet. Thinking he is being attacked by separate robots, Sonic destroys E.V.E. twice, only for her to revert to a metallic ooze and reshape into a more lethal form.
After wrecking E.V.E.'s second (hornet) form, Sonic goes to confront Robotnik, who gloats that E.V.E. can never be defeated and will only learn from each victory. E.V.E. then bursts into Robotnik's headquarters and attacks Sonic in the form of a giant cobra, which he defeats. Her response is to take the form of a tentacled entity with two large eyes, an enormous mouth, and a crystal-like brain, after which she turns the tables by turning on her creator. Although Robotnik tries to re-assert control, E.V.E. reveals that by adding Sonic's DNA to her systems, Robotnik mistakenly implanted a streak of independence instead of the resourcefulness that he'd intended her to receive. Instead of developing his intelligence, all she got from Robotnik was his evil, which was negated by the inherent good she inherited from Sonic. E.V.E. seemingly vaporizes her master-but in reality only sent him to a parallel future and an encounter with a defeated version of himself-and turns her attention to Sonic, intending to fulfill her programming. Thinking quick, Sonic reasons to E.V.E. that she will never be free if she continues following orders. Upon realizing her own free will, E.V.E. thanks Sonic and soars into outer space, her brain-like form growing larger so that the tentacles are replaced by butterfly wings made of pure energy.
Sonic encounters E.V.E. again after he is stranded in deep space and trying to get back to Mobius.[5] The increasingly-powerful E.V.E. had been seeking out planets whose natives employed computers to work for them. This E.V.E. shared the outward appearance of her previous incarnation, though in much larger form. Inside, however, the main unit was anthropomorphic, and feminine in appearance. Feeling the need to "liberate" the machines, E.V.E stripped these worlds of all their minerals until they were reduced to lifeless rock, then integrated the computers into her own systems to evolve into a "higher organism". Outraged, Sonic points out to her that instead of serving their masters, these computers just obey E.V.E. instead. Hearing Sonic's words, E.V.E. determines that she is no better than the oppressor, that her mission is flawed, and must be terminated. After giving Sonic coordinates to help him get home, E.V.E. resets her course to the nearest star. During A.D.A.M.'s "gathering", it is revealed that this star was powered by yellow Chaos Emeralds.
- EVE is the first of Robotnik's creations to be named from the Bible, the second being ADAM.
[edit] Feist
A giant panda who was banished to the Zone of Silence, Feist became a lackey of Ixis Naugus'--like Uma Arachnis, Warlord Kodos, and King Maximillian Acorn--after being defeated by the wizard's magic, a fact that Naugus would later brag about. Sonic and co. first learned about him during their use of a machine to get into King Acorn's dreams, during which dream versions of himself and Kodos attacked Sonic.
Feist later became the ruler of the Zone of Silence after all of the Chaos Emeralds in the universe were sent there by Turbo Tails and Super Shadow, having been gathered by A.D.A.M. With his newly unlimited power, he fused all of the jewels into seven Emeralds of varying color. In addition, he reshaped the Zone of Silence, renaming it the Special Zone. Thanking Sonic for his new power, Feist gave him the grey emerald, saying that if he wanted more, he would have to work for it. Because they both see Ixis Naugus as an enemy, Feist came to regard Sonic as an ally--though this is clearly limited to their antagonism of the wizard.
Far larger than any Mobian, Feist is clad only in a belt made out of silver metal. He presumably has strength proportionate to his size, and was apparently so powerful that it took Naugus' magic to defeat him. During Sonic's first encounter with him in King Acorn's dreams, he also displayed laser vision abilities. As a result of his control of the Chaos Emeralds, he has also seemingly gained reality-warping abilities derived from Chaos energy.
- Feist's design originally made it hard to determine what type of animal he was, leading several fans to believe that he was a badger, skunk, or wolverine before refinements identified him as a panda.
[edit] Foxxy
Foxxy was one of Ebony Hare's high-ranking lackeys; he was virtually never seen without her, although she was only really there for "moral support". She appeared with Ebony Hare briefly during his Angel Island operation to use black market seasonings to force customers to keep returning to a theme park run by Renfield the Rodent, but he was thwarted by the Chaotix and Constable Remington. Foxxy, fleeing the scene, was caught by Vector the Crocodile and taken to jail.
[edit] General Hunn
Supposedly a descedent of genghis khan, the hunn leader.
[edit] Hunter
As his name implied, Hunter was a rogue Overlander poacher and a foe of Knuckles the Echidna, who considered the mass murder of Mobians acceptable so long as he gave them a sporting chance. He first appeared on Angel Island, capturing Knuckles and his childhood rival, a gorilla named Monk, locking shock collars around their necks to prevent their escape and hunting them across Angel Island. Eventually cornering the escapees in the Hydrocity Zone, Hunter executed Monk, which drove Knuckles to insticntively use his dormant Chaos powers to drive the Overlander away.
Held prisoner by the Brotherhood of Guardians for several months, Hunter was freed by the Eggman-supported dingoes during the take-over of Angel Island. Seeing potential in the villain, Robotnik enhanced his fighting abilities and armed him with a 'Chaos Spear' that allowed him to teleport his targets into captivity in New Megaopolis. Once more however, Hunter was bested by Knuckles, who transformed into his Super Knuckles persona and cast the Overlander into the sea, where he allegedly drowned-unless he was first killed by the force of falling several hundred feet. This fate was oddly fitting, given that it echoed that of Monk. Before his death, Hunter captured numerous citizens of Angel Island, including Constable Remington, the Fire Ant Council, and Xenin of the Dark Legion. He also seemingly captured Dr. Finitevus, but the mad scientist appears to have used Hunter as a distraction to allow him to disappear and work on his own agenda.
[edit] Iron King/Iron Queen
The Iron King and Queen were the primary antagonists of Monkey Khan. The Iron King is a gigantic ox with incredible strength, and an affinity for collecting weapons. The Iron Queen is an Overlander and is capable of casting dark magic and powerful spells. Sonic and Tails encountered the Iron King and Queen during their quest for Ixis Naugus, who fled across all of Mobius.
Sonic and Tails learn that the Iron King and Queen crowned themselves ruler of the village Sonic and Tails had entered and demanded all villagers swear loyalty to them. When the villagers refused, the Iron Queen set Mount Stormtop on fire for over a hundred days and would not lift the spell until the villagers agreed to bow down to the Iron King and Queen.
Sonic and Tails were told that only the magical fan of Fen Xing could blow out the flames on the mountain, but that it was in the Iron King's arsenal in his fortress. When the two tried to retrieve it, the Iron Queen cast a spell on renegade cyborg, Monkey Khan, to kill Sonic and Tails before they arrived. They managed to free Khan and he joined them in assaulting the Iron King at his fortress.
When Sonic found the magical fan, he used it to blow the Iron King right off his feet (or rather hooves). Sonic and the others returned to Mount Stormtop to blow out the flames, the Iron Queen tried to use her magic to stop them but failed and the flames were extinguished. The Iron Queen left the village swearing revenge, but the Iron King's fate remains unknown.
- Monkey Khan was supposedly foretold in a "legend" that a monkey king would help defeat the evil Iron King and Queen and save the village. This legend is based on the Chinese fable Journey to the West. The first saga in Akira Toriyama's series Dragon Ball also borrowed from that classic tale, thus Toriyama's adaptation is the one that would be most familiar to Western readers.
- Sonic HQ featured a list of possible future storylines, including one where the Iron Queen returned in an effort to claim the powerful Master Geode. This would lead her to mind control Knuckles and bring her into conflict with Mammoth Mogul and Dr. Eggman. However, this storyline does not look likely to occur at any future time.[6]
[edit] Jack Rabbit
A Freedom Fighter turned villain, Jack is a gray hare with a black eye patch on his left eye, and wears rebel "commando" style clothing. He leads a band of rebels called "Sand Blasters" out in the Mobius desert, the group living in a force field protected town called "Sand Blast City". Sonic and Tails crash landed in the desert during their global search for Ixis Naugus, and they hitched then ride with Jack and his rebels. Their opinion of the group changed when they learned that Sand Blast City worshipped Sonic, who was a god in their eyes after killing Dr. Robotnik.
Sonic helped Jack's group fend off a savage horde of Robians, who are the reason Sand Blast City is protected by the force field. It later turned out that Jack purposely crashed Sonic's plane and hid it in the city, making sure he'd never leave so he could protect them from the Robians forever. Not about to stay, the Hedgehog found the controls of the force field hidden inside the monument statue of himself and destroyed them both. The shield dropped and the Robians invaded the city; Sonic and Tails managed to escape, leaving Jack and his rebels to their enemies.
Later, Bunnie Rabbot was attacked and imprisoned by Jack after receiving a fake transmission asking for help. The message was intended for Sonic but Jack decided to use Bunnie to bait Sonic instead and locked her up in an impenetrable cell with the savage Robians that had overrun Sand Blast City after the shield was destroyed, all of whom had been captured. Bunnie bravely battled the Robians and managed to break free from her cell, leaving the Robians to attack Jack and his Sand Blasters once again while Bunnie escaped.
- Cutting room floor story ideas included Jack Rabbit becoming a sub-boss to Dr. Robotnik.[7] Jack Rabbit's colours & design makes him resemble Bugs Bunny. Strangly enough, the "Sand blasters" soldiers also resemble Looney Tunes, Disney, Muppet, & TMNT characters. He is probably named after Jazz Jackrabbit. Although Tails asks the question, the reason why the Robians attacking Sand Blast city never gained their free will back from the Ultimate Annihilator's explosion like all other Robians remains unanswered.
[edit] Warlord Kodos
A powerful anthropomorphic humanoid lion, Kodos once served as the Minister of War in the Kingdom of Acorn. For unexplained reasons, this battle axe-wielding warrior despised Overlanders, particularly Nate Morgan. Allying himself with Ixis Naugus, the Royal Wizard of that time, Kodos arranged for Nate to be forced into exile. However, Kodos found himself toppled by Dr. Robotnik, who trapped him in the Zone of Silence along with Naugus, taking over as Minister of War. The irony was that Kodos showed Robotnik the entrance, trying to recruit the Overlander to his side! Irony aside, Kodos attacked King Acorn when the monarch arrived in the Zone, only to be attacked himself by the giant Feist and seemingly destroyed; however, it is quite apparent that he survived.
Without anyone else to turn to, Kodos pledged loyalty to Naugus, serving as his enforcer alongside Uma Arachnis. He quickly amassed a collection of grudges towards both Robotnik and Sonic the Hedgehog and Sally. Kodos escaped the Zone of Silence with Uma and Naugus, and engaged in a battle against Sonic and Geoffrey St. John. Naugus transformed him into a crystal warrior to improve his fighting abilities, but when Naugus' staff was destroyed the effect left Kodos petrified.
Kodos and Uma were sent to Devil's Gulag, only to be mysteriously released and join the future Destructix in their efforts to kidnap Nate Morgan. After a battle with Sonic and King Acorn's Secret Service, Kodos stole Sonic's biplane and the remains of Crocbot to escape, and the warlord was later exposed to pollution from Robotropolis and driven mad. He fell into a ravine while attempting to capture the Sword of Acorns, and seemingly perished either from the fall or from the poison of Robotropolis.
Kodos was known for being violent beyond reason, attacking enemies without thought for strategy or future plans. This berserker method made him a dangerous foe, but it was also his most flawed trait. As one of Naugus' minions, he was given the ability to shift back and forth between his Mobian form and that of a crystalline being, the latter of which gave him greater fighting strength and protection from the effects of the Zone of Silence. In addition, the combined effects of years spent in the Zone of Silence and exposure to Robotropolis' poisons made him a dangerously unpredictable attacker.
[edit] Mathias Poe
A raven wizard whom Knuckles met during his search for the Sword of Acorns, Mathais Poe was one of several dark magic users who attempted to establish themselves in the Floating Island's Forbidden Zone. Having somehow obtained the Sword himself, Mathais disguised it as a duplicate of his fellow spellcaster Damocles the Elder, and used it as a magical focus to increase his own spells' power.
Knuckles infiltrated Poe's lair and confronted the Raven, only to have him summon an iron golem to fight against him. Unable to defeat the creature with his great strength, the Guardian seemed doomed to fail until his mentor Archimedes appeared. No stranger to magical lore, Archy realized that the key to victory was breaking the flow of magic from Mathais to the golem, and did so by knocking the raven down with his fire breath. No longer supported by its master, the golem was easily defeated by a punch from Knuckles. The two friends then discovered the nature of the Damocles duplicate, which Poe had directed his magic through to summon the golem, when they spilled potion on it and caused it to revert to its true form.
After being defeated by Knuckles, it is possible Mathias was hunted down by Sir Connery just like the aforementioned Damocles.
- Mathias Poe's name is possibly a pun off of Edgar Allan Poe and his poem, The Raven.
[edit] Monk
A gorilla who lived on the Floating Island, Monk took great pleasure in tormenting Knuckles when he was younger. Unwilling to stand by and watch, disguised members of the Brotherhood of Guardians threw Monk off the island. Several years later, he managed to climb back on, and wished to return to the way things had been, looking to beat up Knuckles. However, years of training and growing had changed Knuckles, and he was no longer so easily put to use as a punching bag.
Monk and Knuckles were forced to put aside their differences when Hunter made them the quarry in his Floating Island hunt. Bound by shock collars, the two worked together to flee Hunter. However, their victory was short-lived, as Hunter electrocuted Monk, causing the gorilla to topple once again from the island. This time, however, he perished either from the fall, the shock, or from drowning.
[edit] Mutant Snake
One of the giant mutant creatures created during the Days of Fury caused by the Xorda, the Mutant Snake attacked Sonic when he retrieved the Ring of Acorns from the Temple of Shazamazo. Failing to catch him, it struck a group of Robians but hasn't been encountered since.
[edit] Nack the Weasel
- For information on the version of Nack seen in the games, see Fang the Sniper. For information on his British version, see his Sonic the Comic entry.
In the Archie-published Sonic the Hedgehog comics, Nack has a sister named Nic, which seems to be a play on his translated name. He is also depicted as having a bit of an Australian accent. His first appearance is in the Sonic Triple Trouble adaptation. In the story he captured Sonic which led to roboticisation, but escaped custody to hunt Nack down. He was found in the Bottom of the Barrel Bar 'n' Grill and later captured. Later, he and his sister were charged with capturing the Chaos-charged Knuckles the Echidna. After succeeding and collecting their payment, they separated, and Nack was not heard from for some time. He later appeared with a trio of nameless weasel "brothers"-later revealed to be named Carl, Jeff, and Konor-who planned to kidnap Princess Sally Acorn and collect a ransom from her parents, but Sally escaped by tricking Nack into thinking that she would join his group, and then kneeing Nack in the groin. He tried to get revenge by killing the princess, but was thwarted when Mina Mongoose took the bullet for Sally.
Nack managed to get away and was offered a job in Station Square by an unnamed client who wanted to know about the Master Emerald of Angel Island. Rouge the Bat overheard their conversation and flew to the island herself, but it is unknown if Nack actually took the job or not. Nack later made an attempt at assassinating Mina, having been hired by Robotnik because the doctor couldn't stand her music. This was probably also an attack aimed at the morale of the Kingdom of Acorn, as Mina's songs were often written to support the troops. He later gave in to one of Sally Acorn's threats and got thrown in jail. When the Destructix got thrown in jail after an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Freedom Fighters and Chaotix, Nack started taunting them. Shortly after that, Mammoth Mogul freed the Destructix from jail, and Nack escaped during the chaos, hinting that he was going to poison his former gang of weasels before he left, as he "didn't need the competition".
He later appeared conducting reconnaissance to verify claims of an auction of the Master Emerald being held by Rouge the Bat, only to be caught in a sting operation by the Freedom Fighters, resulting in him being imprisoned yet again. The only consolation he might have had was that several other villains-Mammoth Mogul, Ixis Naugus, Bark the Polar Bear, and Bean the Dynamite-were also tricked and captured. Mogul was even knocked out by Sally Acorn piloting Nack's own Marvelous Queen air bike, which was afterwards given into the ownership of Rouge, who used it to carry the five would-be thieves to jail. Nack was then further incarcerated when all but a small handful of the inhabitants of Knothole were captured during an assault by Eggman's Egg Fleet, though was soon freed when said survivors mounted a rescue operation to liberate the prisoners. Throwing in his lot with Mogul and the others, he was apparently eager to assist the Mammoth in taking over New Mobotropolis after they were transported to it. Unfortunately, Nack didn't even get the chance to fight, as he and the other four criminals were teleported to a new prison, courtesy of Sally's computer friend NICOLE. Naturally, being imprisoned again after being defeated so easily has extremely hurt the Weasel's vague sense of dignity. He did, however, join the other prisoners in first taunting Elias when he came to visit Amadeus Prower in the prison, and then egging on Sonic and Tails during their scuffle inside the prison. When Mammoth Mogul coerced his freedom, Nack, despite having doubted Mogul's abilities, was among those freed. He later appeared alongside the Destructix as their 'ace in the hole', using his sniper rifle to stun Sonic while he was distracted fighting the other members of the group, allowing them to capture the hedgehog. He then confronted Sally one on one, intent on carrying out his vendetta against her for the humiliations he had suffered at the hands of the princess and her comrades, giving her a 10-second running start towards Freedom HQ before he would open fire on her. Unfortunately, Nack once again caught no breaks, as Sally teamed up with Amy Rose to mount a counter-attack (Sally "watching" the front door while Amy lies in wait, leaving Nack open to attack when he assumes the entrance Sally used would be unguarded), leaving him knocked out and ready for arrest once again, though when Bunnie and Antoine arrived on-scene to take him into custody, he had apparently disappeared, either having been rescued by a third party or having come to and fled.
Nack is a violent and dangerous criminal, one of the few Mobians found regularly in the Kingdom of Acorn who will use guns. He will do anything for a profit, and will work willingly for high-paying employers or his own agendas. Nack is disliked by virtually everyone, from his rival and sister Nic to his former partners in the Destructix to his enemies the Freedom Fighters. Of all the indignities he has suffered, nothing upsets him more than the fact that he has been arrested time and time again (particularly now). Possessed of no super abilities, Nack utilizes his Marvelous Queen, an ion-powered air bike, to get around. One of his few useful natural abilities is the power to propel himself high into the air by using his tail like a spring.
[edit] Nic the Weasel
Nic the Weasel, full name Nicolette, is the younger sister of the more well known Nack the Weasel. As his sibling, Nic is determined to prove herself a better bounty hunter than him. Because of this, the two seldom work together, though on certain occasions they have teamed up, such as their work in capturing Chaos Knuckles.
Nic formed her own mercenary group with Bark the Polar Bear, Bean the Dynamite, and Fiona Fox. She later helped save Ray the Squirrel from a prison, intending to steal the Power Gem kept there. However, it was destroyed, and she wanted payment from the squirrel. However, his friend Mighty the Armadillo paid Nic back instead. Following Fiona's defection to the Freedom Fighters, Nic's group has fragmented.
Nic dresses in similar style to her brother, with a cowboy hat, boots, and gloves. The only difference is a sleeveless belly shirt, which goes with her feminine nature. Nic also has a ponytail, but other than that is virtually identical to Nack. Like Nack, she is also an expert sharpshooter.
Some consider Nic to be more of an anti-hero than a villain, similar to Rouge the Bat. Her main vice (greed) is tempered by the fact that she has performed heroic acts (deliberately saving Ray's life).
[edit] Renfield the Rodent
Rendfield the Rodent is a smiling, snazzy dressed, rat character who was in charge of several criminal organizations and shady dealings, most often occurring in his personal amusement park known as "Happy Land", located on Angel Island. Renfield was first introduced in the Chaotix comic book special, he invited Sonic, Knuckles, and the fellow Freedom Fighters to be his "guests" at his amusement park. Renfield then trapped Sonic and the Freedom Fighters in a House of Mirrors (within the mirrors themselves). Knuckles managed to escape and later met up with the rest of the Chaotix, including Heavy and Bomb. Turns out that Dr. Robotnik had made a deal with Renfield and worked together with him to trap the freedom fighters. Knuckles and the Chaotix liberated Sonic and the others, and making short work of Robotnik's new Metal Sonic robot. Robotnik ditched Renfield and allowed him to be captured by Knuckles. Later on, Renfield reopened his amusement park to the public.
The Chaotix once again ran into Renfield when Charmy Bee's best friend,Mello, died of food poisoning from Renfield's "secret sauce" that he put in the park's chili dogs. Downtown Ebony Hare found out about Renfield's plans and forced his way into controlling Renfield's business just as the Chaotix and Knuckles had entered the amusement park. Ebony Hare was arrested but Renfield was allowed to operate his amusement park, but without the toxic secret sauce, confiscated by Sergeant Remington. Renfield was not seen until much later in "The Chaotix Connection" (Sonic issue 166). Rouge the Bat accompanied Knuckles and the Chaotix to Renfield's newly-opened Casinopolis in Station Square. It was revealed that Renfield was using the casino as a front for Robotnik's newest Auto-Automaton factory, which used scanners hidden in the slot machine screens to copy customers data and build up an army of infiltrators.
Mighty the Armadillo and Julie-Su managed to slip out of Renfield's traps and destroyed the robot factory, last heard, Renfield was going to stand trial for his crimes at Station Square. Renfield was referred to in the comics as Renfield T. Rodent, the T standing for "the".
[edit] Ripper
Ripper is a hulking, muscular, blood red fur colored rat (or mouse) bodyguard for Renfield T. Rodent. Renfield called Ripper in when Downtown Ebony Hare came in and was threatening to take control of Renfield's business. When Ebony Hare saw Ripper, he simply snapped his fingers and his own personal bodyguard, Blackjack, stepped in and KOed Ripper with one punch. This was his only appearance and he never spoke a single word of dialog.
[edit] Uma Arachnis/Arachne
A female ninja spider who served Ixis Naugus, Uma Arachnis met Naugus in the Zone of Silence. With all the abilities of both a spider and a ninja, she proved quite dangerous. Often silent, even other villains found her confusing. Uma worked alongside Warlord Kodos, both of them joining Naugus in escaping the Zone of Silence, and both were left helpless in a crystalline state when Naugus' magic wand was destroyed. Abandoned by their master, they were taken to Devil's Gulag for incarceration. They later escaped to menace the Freedom Fighters until both died from exposure to Robotropolis pollution.
Uma's legacy lives on in the form of her children, the Arachne, an army of spider ninjas who also serve Ixis Naugus. The Arachne have been distinguished as villains due to being entrusted with the Sword of Acorns after it tried to possess Sally. They later used it to open a dimensional warp, freeing Naugus from his imprisonment and killing the Ancient Walkers. Due to Ixis' alliance with Mammoth Mogul, the Arachne came to serve Mogul as well. Along with the Destructix and the two wizards, the Arachne were attacked by the Egg Fleet and imprisoned in the Egg Grape Chamber. As a result of Mogul and Naugus abandoning them to the life draining powers of the Egg Grapes, the Arachne died in the second chamber. As a result, they were not rescued by Dr. Finitevus, who liberated the Destructix to serve as his minions.
As ninjas, Uma Arachnis and her children wield a number of traditional Japanese weapons. Among their arsenals are Sai, Nunchuks, Katana swords, Bo staffs, Shurikens, and bows and arrows. Like Kodos and King Acorn, Uma was originally imbued with the ability to transform into a crystalline version of her Mobian self to increase her abilities in battle as well as granting her protection from the Zone of Silence, but this skill was rendered useless not long after she returned to Mobius Prime.
- Uma Arachnis' origins were somewhat explained in prototype story ideas, in which a ninja order known as "the Strand" was introduced. Protectors of the Source of All, this group was the one from which Uma originated. Later, the Arachne would be taken control of by the Sword of Acorns and join the group in their mother's place, causing the rest of the group to be corrupted as well.[8]
- The Arachne were killed off by the Egg Grape Chamber because the writers felt that the "spider ninja" villain angle had run its course and that it would be pointless to use it again.
[edit] Xorda
The Xorda (singular and plural) are a warlike alien species responsible for the metamorphosis of Earth into Mobius. They resemble large, purple, brain-like organs with long pink tentacles and a single green eye; they also communicate through telepathy. During the "gathering" of all the Chaos Emeralds in the universe, it was revealed that the Xorda's home world is the location of the blue Chaos Emeralds.
The Xorda's wrath was incurred upon Earth when an envoy they sent to it was captured, imprisoned, and dissected by human scientists. Outraged, the Xorda bombarded the planet with gene bombs, believing that all life had been wiped out. Unbeknownst to them, some survived, and eventually swelled to repopulate the planet. The energy of the bomb caused the mutation of many animal species into the anthropomorphic Mobians that now inhabit it, as well as the creation of Mobius' Chaos Emeralds. This latter fact was cast into doubt however when the source of this information - a 12,000 year old robot named Isaac - was revealed to have most of its data corrupted and/or erroneous when he was hacked into by Dr. Finitevus.
The secrecy of continued life on Mobius was compromised when the Xorda discovered two ships heading for Mobius. Presumably they knew that there were Overlanders (humans) aboard as Hope Kintobor explains that they attacked them. Presumably they traced the ships to Mobius and realised that life had arisen again. Upon entering the Solar System, they nearly stumbled upon a ship from the Bem, a much more belevolent alien race, but were distracted by Shadow the Hedgehog. When they arrived, they delivered an ultimatum of destruction unto the people of Mobius, and also told them the truth about their world's origins. As if to demonstrate their power, they launched a devastating single-ship attack on Dr. Eggman's Eggman Empire.
The ship was repulsed by Giga-Bot Prime, a giant robot created by Robotnik that only Sonic's speed could power (presumably at that point in time, Eggman would surely have access to alternative power sources under normal circumstances). However, the Xorda had yet to play their trump card.
In the planet's polar region, the Xorda revealed their final plan to eradicate the planet. A pyramidal device, known as the Quantum Dial, was set up. Its purpose was to tear open a hole in reality, creating a black hole powerful enough to consume the planet and the entire solar system. It was assumed that such a large target would be easy to deal with, given that Station Square launched an immediate missile strike. However, the Quantum Dial possessed some kind of field that caused any construct within fifty feet to fall apart. Unwilling to give up without a fight, the various fighters of Mobius banded together, putting aside their differences to battle a common enemy. However, even with the amazing number of warriors aligned against them, the Xorda weapon was only vanquished after the timely resurrection of Knuckles the Echidna (who simultaneously caused the destruction of the weapon's defenses) and the seeming suicide attack of Sonic the Hedgehog upon the Quantum Dial, which caused the destruction of the device.
The Xorda departed Mobius soon after they launched the Quantum dial leaving the entire planet for dead - they have not been seen since except in flashbacks. They are also the reason that the Bem do not pursue a vessel (which heads on a course back to Mobius via a bem jumpgate) they believe to contain Ceneca 9009, the rogue scientist who built the De-Roboticizer. In truth, the vessel held Sonic, who had been beamed into space by the Quantum Dial's destruction. Unwittingly, the Xorda had inadvertently provided a safe journey home for their greatest hindrance. As the Bem pointed out that access to Mobius via their jumpgates was officially restricted on account of the Xorda having declared war on the planet - this would suggest the possibility that the Xorda are aware of their second failure to destroy all humanoid life on Mobius and could possibly attack again.
It was later revealed that the reason the Xorda never returned to Mobius is because they have been fighting the Black Arms, another race of evil aliens, for months over the planet Argentum, also known as Wheel World (known in the issue as Ring World), the homeworld of the Bem Where Amadeus and Rosemary Prower were residing for years.
[edit] Yagyu Clan
[edit] Kamezon
[edit] Zan the Dragon
A red Oriental Dragon, Zan was the mate of Freedom Fighter ally Dulcy. Unlike his green winged companion, however, Zan was incredibly violent, deploying his fire breath and powerful body against virtually anything that made him mad, including Dulcy herself. Zan also considered all other races of Mobius to be his enemies, as demonstrated by his attacks on the City of the Ancients (also known as Station Square). Due to these attacks, the inhabitants of the city called in Sonic and the Freedom Fighters. After a battle with Sonic and an elite unit of the Station Square military force, GUN, at his lair on Pyro Island, Zan seemingly perished.
