[edit] History

Highway 9 was authorized in 1920 and 1933.

Highway 9 was joined together from three distinctly separate segments.

Highway 9 is the original alignment of U.S. Highway 75 between Minnesota Highway 27 and U.S. Highway 12.

Highway 9 is also the original alignment of U.S. Highway 75 between Minnesota Highway 200 and U.S. Highway 2.

Between U.S. Highway 12 to an old alignment of U.S. Highway 71 at New London, Highway 9 was originally designated Minnesota Highway 23 until around 1940, then called Minnesota Highway 17 until 1963.

The last section of Highway 9 to be paved was the old Minnesota Highway 82 section north of Breckenridge, which was paved by 1961.
