Minnesota State Highway 98 originally ran south from Chisago City to Forest Lake. In the mid-1950s, A new, more direct route from Chisago City to Forest Lake was built, and U.S. Route 8 was moved to the new road. Trunk Highway 98 was moved to U.S. 8's old route from Chisago City to Wyoming. It was decommissioned in 1998 and became Chisago County 22.
