Minnesota State Highway 47 is a highway in Minnesota. It is 125-miles in length.
For part of its route (9-miles), it runs together with Minnesota Highway 18 in Aitkin and Mille Lacs counties around the northeast side of Mille Lacs Lake.
Highway 47 also runs together with U.S. Highway 10 for 8-miles in Anoka and Coon Rapids (from Ferry Street in Anoka to Foley Boulevard in Coon Rapids).
[edit] Termini
The northern terminus for Minnesota 47 is its intersection with U.S. Highway 169 in Aitkin in east-central Minnesota.
The southern terminus for Minnesota 47 is its intersection with Minnesota Highway 65 (Central Avenue) in northeast Minneapolis.
[edit] Notes
Highway 47 is also known as "University Avenue" from its junction with Highway 610 (at the Coon Rapids / Blaine boundary line) to its southern terminus in northeast Minneapolis at Central Avenue.
"University Avenue" further extends itself into Saint Paul (as Ramsey County Road 34), ending at Lafayette Road. This section of "University Avenue" passes by landmarks such as the University of Minnesota and Minnesota State Capitol.
[edit] History
Highway 47 was originally an extension of Minnesota Highway 56, which ran from southern Minnesota to Hampton and then was concurrent with U.S. Highway 52 into downtown Saint Paul; then along University Avenue in both Saint Paul and Minneapolis. In 1963, Highway 56 was terminated in downtown Saint Paul and the section from Minneapolis north to Aitkin was renumbered Highway 47.
