Minnesota Martial Arts Academy is a martial arts training center in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Founded in 1992 by Greg Nelson , a former NCAA Division 1 wrestler at the University of Minnesota.[citation needed] The academy provides training in combative martial arts and physical fitness.[citation needed] Forms that have been taught include Muay Thai, Shooto, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Mixed Martial Arts.[citation needed] Many students do not compete in any form of martial arts, but train only for fun and physcial fitness.[citation needed] According to Sherdog.com the Academy's fight team, Team X-Factor, has a winning percentage of 80%[1]

The Academy is based in traditional martial arts blended with modern training methods. Greg Nelson's philosophy has been to carry on the traditions and values that martial arts offer, while at the same time training in functional techniques and building physical attributes. Since its inception, the Academy has been the home to many of the top mixed martial arts fighters in the upper Midwest. From the beginning, Greg focused on building a strong core group of serious martial arts enthusiasts. This core group developed into a highly regarded fight team in the Mixed Martial Arts competition world.
