Minnesota's 8th congressional district covers the northeastern part of Minnesota. The district is best-known for its mining, agriculture, and shipping industries; it leans Democratic with a CPVI of D + 4.[3] The district has been represented by Jim Oberstar, a DFLer, scoring 13% conservative by a conservative group[4] and 86% progressive by a liberal group[5] since 1975; he is Minnesota's most senior representative. This district contains Duluth, Hibbing, and the Mesabi and Vermilion iron ranges.
