Minkend (Azerbaijani: Minkənd, Armenian: Մինքենդ) is a village in Lachin district of Azerbaijan. Since May 17, 1992 the village together with Lachin district have been under control of the Nagorno Karabakh military forces.[1] In 1905 Armenian massacres in Minkend village were organized by the agents of Russian Tsar [1]. On 6th of September, 1905 a group of Cossacks had gone to Minkend to protect the Armenians, but on being assured by the Tartar mayor (pristav) that there was no danger, went to Khansovar, which was being attacked. As soon as they departed, the Tartars fell on the Armenians, killing 140 and wounding 40, before the eyes of the pristav, who did not interfere. [2]

Geography

The village is located at the west side of Hakari River and in the north part of the Lachin district, 320 km from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan Republic.[2] [3]
