The Ministry of Unification is a branch of the South Korean government that is charged with working toward the reunification of Korea. It was first established in 1969 as the National Unification Board, under the rule of Park Chung-hee. It gained its current status in 1998 but will no longer exist as a separate ministry under Lee Myung-bak's government taking over in 2008.[1] The last minister was Lee Jae-jeong.
The ministry also supports several university programs in unification studies.
