Ministry of Power (India)

The Ministry of Power, a branch of the Government of India, is primarily engaged in the production of electricity in India. It generally oversees construction and maintenance projects.
India faces challenges in electrical supply and delivery, and is often unable to meet demand, even in very large cities.
The Ministry is engaged in development of the infrastructure for safe and cost-effective electricity generation, transmission, and delivery. It acts as liaison between the central government and state electricity operation, as well as interfaces with the private sector.
As of May 2008,current union minister of Power under the UPA Government is Sushilkumar Shinde and the Minister of State is Jairam Ramesh.
