Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (India)

Ministry of New and Renewable Energy came into existence in 1992 and was known as Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources before October 2006. The Ministry is generally headed by a Minister of State (Independent Charge). As of May 2008, the ministry is headed by Vilas Muttemwar.

The Ministry is responsible mainly for R & D, Intellectual Property Right protection, International co-operation and promotion & co-ordination in the field of non-conventional energy sources e.g. wind power, small hydro power, biogas, solar energy.
