Ministry of Coal (India)

The Ministry of Coal has the overall responsibility of exploration and development of coal and lignite reserves of India. These functions are carried out through the Public Sector Undertakings of Coal India Limited and its subsidiaries and Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited. It also has a 49% equity participation in Singareni Collieries Company Limited a joint venture with Andhra Pradesh Gvoernment. The Prime Minister heads the ministry at present and is assisted by Minister of State for Coal, Dr Dasari Narayan Rao.
