Ministock (New Zealand)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ministocks are a class of car raced at many New Zealand speedway tracks. Ministocks are primarily youth grade but at some tracks are raced as an adult class. Ministocks would have to be on of the largest classes through-out Speedway New Zealand, but are still not a 'recognized' class. Meaning they are not able to run big championships as North, South, New Zealand Champs. In the youth grade drivers are aged from 12 to 16, and are focused to teach young drivers to handle a car on the racing track, learn racing rules and all sorts of tactics and especially have fun. Once the driver's are at the stage of stepping up, they are able to keep their existing car and race in Adult Ministocks, or move into another class which is alot faster or rougher. ie Streetstocks, Stockcars, Superstocks or Sprintcars.

[edit] The Cars

Ministocks are built to resemble New Zealand Stockcars, but unlike Stockcars, Ministocks are not a contact class. The engine's run in them are from Datsun 1200's & also Toyota 3K Engines. Datsun's are most popular with the ministock class, but with donor cars slowly disappearing more Toyota's are coming being built up.

[edit] History

Ministocks were first started in Wanganui By Daryl Taylor and were first debuted at Wanganui Speedway on the 6th of January 1996. And soon kicked off, with big numbers at each track.
