The position of foreign minister in the de facto independent (though not internationally recognized) republic of Abkhazia has mostly been a rather inactive one, due to the entity's international diplomatic isolation. However, in recent years, the foreign minister has had an increased role in wrangling about the future of Abkhazia, and has been often interviewed in the media.
