Mingus Big Band

The Mingus Big Band is an ensemble, based in New York City, that specializes in the compositions of the late Charles Mingus. It is managed by his widow, Sue Mingus. In addition to its weekly Tuesday night appearance at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City, the Mingus Big Band also tours frequently in Europe and other parts of the world.

Band members are rotated in and out, depending on who is available and is selected from the following list:

3 Trumpets: Randy Brecker, Eddie Henderson, Alex Sipiagin, Kenny Rampton, Jeremy Pelt, Ryan Kisor, Earl Gardner, Jack Walrath

3 Trombones: Earl McIntyre, Jonathan Arons, Conrad Herwig, Ku-umba Frank Lacy, Robin Eubanks, Isaac Smith, Dave Taylor, Ron Westray, Joe Fielder, Luis Bonilla.

5 Saxophones: Alex Foster, Seamus Blake, Craig Handy, Wayne Escoffery, Abraham Burton, David Lee Jones, Mike Sim, Jaleel Shaw, Lauren Sevian, Ronnie Cuber, Scott Robinson, Chris Potter. John Stubblefield performed with the band until his death on July 4, 2005.

Piano: David Kikoski (b. 29 September 1961), Orrin Evans, George Colligan, Kenny Drew Jr., John Hicks, Jacob Sacks

Bass: Boris Kozlov, Hans Glawischnig, Vicente Archer, Andy McKee, John Benitez, Joe Martin

The Mingus Big Band released their debut effort, "Nostalgia in Times Square," in 1993 and have since gone on to release seven more albums, all reaching high levels of critical acclaim. The Mingus Big Band records exclusively on the Dreyfus Jazz Record Label.
