Ming Dao was born and raised in Taiwan. Until he moved to Taipei and entered entertainment world, he lived in Banjiao, an area outskirt of Taipei. His parents and his only brother still lived there up until today. Although the adult and current Ming Dao looks very healthy, especially with his dark sun-tanned skin, when he was younger, his legs were very weak and he had to use leg braces to even walk properly. His brother had supported him a lot during that period of time, resulting in Ming Dao's gratitude towards him now.
MD didn't come from a well-off family. His family used to sell dried fish and goods in the market in Banjiao. Ming Dao once said that his first job was as a lao ban (boss), because he was working for himself. He started helping him family to sell their goods when he was 12 years old. Later on, he also became an apprentice in a motorcycle repair shop. An accident during his work here caused his little finger to break, and resulting in a bent finger.

In the entertainment industry, Ming Dao began his career as a model due to a dare from a friend. Later on he was signed up by Jungiery and gained the opportunity to be the host of a travelogue show called Mao Xian Wang (The King Of Adventure) and helped SET (San Li) TV Channel to win an award for Best Host. He then starred in various music videos by popular Taiwanese artists; one of them is Steve Zhou for Wo Zai Ni Shen Bian.
His first acting career is in 2004, when he took the role of Chen Hai Nuo in the series La robe de Mariee des cieux aka Tian Guo De Jia Yi. Most people from Taiwan as well as mainland China, though, recognize Ming Dao from the hit series The Prince Who Turns Into a Frog aka Wang Zi Bian Qing Wa as Shan Jun Hao. The series beat the all time record of Meteor Garden during its broadcast in Taiwan and is currently holding the highest rating of all time in Taiwan's TV drama history.
With the fellow members of his band 183 Club, he later starred in another drama series named Ai Qing Mo Fa Shi (The Magicians of Love). In the same year, he also starred in two other drama series called Xing Ping Guo Le Yuan (Legend of Star Apple) and Tian Shi Qing Ren (Angel Lover). In 2007, he got his first opportunity to film a Chinese drama in Shanghai, called Meng Huan Tian Tang. This series is on the verge to being broadcast at Shanghai Dong Fang TV this year. In 2007, Ming Dao got another chance to work with Chen Qiao En, his co-star in The Prince Who Turns Into a Frog in another series called Ying Ye 3 Jia 1. Currently, he's still filming another idol series called Qiao Qiao Ai Shang Ni with Dylan Guo, Wu Ya Xin and Jiang Yi.
His band 183 Club's music can be heard in the The Prince Who Turns Into a Frog OST and The Magicians of Love OST. Ming Dao and two other 183 personnels also sang the OST for Angel Lover. In Ying Ye 3 Jia 1 OST, Ming Dao also got a chance to sing two duet songs with Chen Qiao En and Xu Meng Zhe. 183 Club's debut album was released on August 4th of 2006 with the hit song "One Umbrella", or "Yi Ba San". (The same pronunciation of 183 in Mandarin Chinese).
