Mineola, Missouri

Mineola is an unincorporated community in western Montgomery County, Missouri, United States. It is located about six miles south of Montgomery City on Missouri Supplemental Route J. It is about one mile from Interstate 70. Its post office closed in 1967 and mail now comes from Montgomery City. The community was founded in 1879. According to Ramsay, the name is a Native American-sounding neologism. It was created by a land grant to Daniel Boone.
Mineola Missouri once contained such things as a bank, post office, tavern and was the residence of Issaic van bibber (Son of Daniel Boone) who often came to stay with his son issaic in his home which still stands as a private residence in the mineola township this residence contains a tree on the property with the remains of a carving made by Daniel Boone of his name. Across the road from the original residence of issaic van bibber stands a small bridge, a small well and the foundation of the original vanbibber tavern visible by two stone chimneys protruding from a concrete foundation. The township of mineola still contains a semi active communitybuilding/ Town hall used now only for voting and occasional town meetings. Mineola is also the location of what was one a very prominent resort containing a healing spring, though the resort is now gone its immense stone foundation still stands along the towns edge of Mineola on the bank of the Loutre river.
