Dayle Ann Clavin

[Dayle Ann Clavin]link title was born 11 february 1952 in Los Angeles (US) She is a native Californian who has spent most of her life in Europe. She originally studied music at the University of California and later at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, followed by a career as flute teacher and chamber music player. In the ninetees she discovered her love for photography, worked intensely in black and white inspired by the zone system of Ansel Adams, and the work of many legendary photographers of the early 1900`s. During this time numerous images were published in the well known German-Swiss magazine "PHOTOGRAPHIE" and her work was exhibited in Austria, including the Nikon Gallery in Vienna, Panoptikum Gallery of the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Burgendland, Galerie der Stadt Bad Aussee, the Euregio Galerie of Weinburg Castle, the Anton Bruckner Center and Aschach Castle. Several of her images appeared in the recent book "Von der Idee zum Bild" by Martin Sigrist, published by Laterna Magica in 2000. In the following year, she was a major prize winner in the international photo competition sponsored by the Neue Galerie der Stadt Linz, entitled "Neighbors". A year later she completed the visualization of a new composition by Thomas Doss called "Tempting Land" for jazz band. In the same year she graduated with honors in fine art photography at the Prager Fotoschule Austria. 2002 her photos were exhibited in the Gallery of Photography in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, under the title "Texas Fotofest Discoveries". March 2003 she was granted the distinguished ‘Award of Excellence’ at the “Healing Power of Art” competition from Manhattan Arts International - New York. 2003/2004 a portfolio of Dance and the Soul was published in the magazine "La Fotografia Actual", Barcelona, Spain. Februari 2004 she was among the winners in a photo competition from Pontos de Vista under the title "Self Portrait". April 2004 she was among the 120 finalists out of 1800 entries in the 2004 International Competition for the Exhibition of Fine Art Photography, Fort Collins, Colorado. May 2004 she won the competition sponsored by Pontos de Vista under the title "My Best Photo". June 2004 she received the first prize in the portrait category in the International Photography competition of the San Diego County Fair. She also received an additional first prize awarded by the San Diego Artists Guild. July 2004 she won the first prize in the foreign 'people' category in the international competition virtual*visual sponsored by the organization 'Women in Photography'. October 2004 her work was shown by Galerie Bohner at the "Salzburg International Kunstmesse". November 2004 she was nominated for the Black and White Spider Awards in the category Fine Art. December 2004 she received a honorable mention in the international competition 'The decisive moment' sponsored by Women in Photography International, USA. April 2005 she was awarded an honorable mention in the category 'Americana' by the Smithsonian Institute. September 2005, Book publication of “Dance and the Soul” Imschoot Publishing Company Ghent, Belgium. October 2005, Dayle Ann Clavin was awarded an honorable mention in the category amateur fine art portrait as participant in the 2005 International Photography Awards, known as the "Lucie Awards". This major N.Y. competition drew in 16,600 images from around the world. December 2005 she was nominated for the Black and White Spider Awards in the category Architecture. July 2006, first prize in the Pontos de Vista photography competition of Lissabon with the theme “Eroticism”. September 2006 her image was one of the best 100 images selected out of 3000 entrees by Hugh Davies, curator of the Museum for Modern Art, San Diego, California, to take part in the exhibition “The Art of Digital Show” Lyceum Theatre Gallery, San Diego, California. November 2006, she received two nominations in the Black and White Spider Awards, Los Angeles California. January 2007, Dayle Ann Clavin's nominated image 'San Francisco MOMA' was selected for inclusion in the publication "The World's greatest Black and White Photography, No1." This book showcases 450 of the most outstanding images from the Black and White Spider Awards. May 2008 she won the first price in the category 'nature' in the 'Prix de la Photographie Paris'

Dayle Ann Clavin now resides in Gmunden, Austria.
