[edit] Features
Omnifest did offer PPP service for a time before it was closed down. Also, members had access to IRC which I believe was the WWFIN network (based on memory of server names). 69.12.130.233 10:48, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

John Dobnick and Brooks Smith are dead and most of the others who helped set up Omnifest have moved on. I was tending the http://www.uwm.edu/Dept/Omnifest/ page until my UNIX account got dropped at the end of semester cleanup. I had discussed getting FTP only access a year ago when this happened, but they restored my shell access instead.
It was a sad moment when I realized that an exciting project that used to mean a lot to the community became just another trouble ticket. Sigh...
Unfortunately Neil Trilling's essay "There Goes the Neighborhood" that originally aired on NPR disappeared in the process of making a global redirect.
