I was under the impression this club folded because Wimbledon/MK Dons moved to Milton Keynes. However this page writes it as if they folded beforehand and MK Dons replaced them. Which is true? - MTC 16:42, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- No, that is not correct. They were just one of a number of non-league clubs in Milton Keynes (see Sport in Milton Keynes) and were already in financial trouble (see link in main article).
No-one at the time would have seen the events as connected in any way. At the time, the chairman of MK City speculated that "uncertainty" over what might happen if Wimbledon FC did actually relocate as just one of the reasons why he could not persuade anyone else to invest. This is just one of a number of reasons he cited. The more permanent problem is that first generation (and many second generation) incomers to Milton Keynes tend still to support the club where they grew up. - Suggesting that a club could not progress up through the non-league system implies that the pyramid system does not work. I completely disagree, in fact Rushden and Diamonds began their progression to league 1 status (before they fell back) from the United Counties Premier league in which they played at the same time as and against Wolverton Town FC.

A couple of problems with this that I thought I'd raise here before editing.
1 - This article gives the impression that this MK City had been in existance since the 70's. It was actually created in the mid 90's using the name of a defunct club from the 70's and 80's that played in the Southern League. This should be clarified. There have been 2 MK City teams. It did not play in regional leagues (plural). This version only played in the SML. This may be due to confusion over the amount of clubs using this name.
2 - This MK City achieved absolutely no success of any sort in its short existance. The reference to success should be removed.
3 - Mercedes Benz FC also failed to win either the New City Heating Milton Keynes Sunday League or Cup and should also have the reference to success removed.
4 - The impression is falsely given that MK City moved into Wolverton Park upon the demise of Wolverton FC. Actually they followed Milton Keynes Ladies and Milton Keynes Rangers into Wolverton Park. This MK City did not come into existance until many years after the demise of Wolverton FC.
All this innacurate information is cropping up as a link to here in many forums where the discussion of AFC Wimbledon & MK Dons take place.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bodmass (talk • contribs).
- Please go right ahead. The article does say that there have been two clubs using the same name, but otherwise is very sparse. It is hard to find any reliable reference sources. So write from memory if you have to, but please try to find supporting evidence as soon as you can.
- Also, it would be very helpful if you would create an ID for yourself so that you can sign your remarks on this page and so we can use the History to see who changed what when on the article itself. --Concrete Cowboy 13:14, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
