Certainly an interesting character of folk-lorical status... He was a giant of a man, not only in terms of weight (1000+ lbs) but also in the vastness of his stature (reputedly 7 ft 6)!!!

Thats one big guy, legends also abound that Mills could be heard for a distance of 6 miles in Hog calling season!.... A combination of Gigantism and morbid obesity...god I wish we had some photos of the guy.... :) Andre the Giant would be intimidated.

There's no doubt a Mills Darden existed, but it seems like all the "evidence" for his size is incredibly flimsy. Even though it is listen in Guinness, everything seems to indicate that he was estimated and not actually measured. In all probability he was a huge man, but very big people can get away with exaggerating their heights and weights substantially.
