[edit] Broken link

The link to the ms3d specification is no longer valid. I think it's very important to place a link here to the specification of the MilkShape format! EDIT: Link is working again.

[edit] Controversy Section

The content of the controversy section and the content of the Kur5hin.org article linked in the References section are outdated since several years! I hope I can clarify a few things, because the MilkShape 3D entry on Wikipedia puts it into a bad light for things, which are no longer true.

The issue mentioned in the article by Trystan on Kuro5hin.org has been resolved in April 2003 already (right after Trystan reported that issue). Since April 2003 MilkShape 3D doesn't shutdown the registry monitor or any other programs.

As of version 1.8.1beta2 (May 20 2007), there is the option to install the standard version instead of the trial version of MilkShape 3D. The standard version doesn't have to save the 30-days-trial information into a hidden place and therefore is a very clean installation option for those users who already own a license and do not want the 30-days trial.

Then about the buggy registration system: Versions older than 1.8.1beta2 did just check the first part of the code. The 2nd and 3rd code part were checked after restarting MS3D within the first 2 minutes. Now if the user misstyped a letter in the 2nd or 3rd code part, MS3D ended up in the so-called "2mins message loop", which could be easily fixed by just re-entering the name and code properly. Usually 1, l, I and O, 0 were misstyped very often. This behaviour may have lead to the conculsion, that the system is buggy. But in fact it was just a misstyped 2nd or 3rd code part, which wasn't reported immediately by MS3D. Since version 1.8.1beta2 and up all 3 code parts are checked at once and any invalid codes are reported immediately to avoid such a confusion.

My suggestion is to leave those sections, but to make clear, that those issues have been resolved.

[edit] MilkDrop?

Other then the similar titles of each program, why is this in the "See Also" selection? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.197.55.161 (talk) 04:51, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
