- 1918 - World War I: John Monash assumed command of the Australian Corps in France.
- 1942 - World War II: Three midget submarines attack Sydney Harbour. The depot ship HMAS Kuttabul was sunk with the loss of 22 on-board. All three midget submarines were lost.
