- 1901 - Official birthday of the Australian Army
- 1942 - World War II: HMAS Perth sunk during the Battle of Sunda Strait
- 1972 - Vietnam War: Last Royal Australian Air Force flight leaves Vietnam.
- 1985 - 1st/15th Royal New South Wales Lancers granted freedom of entry to Sydney, New South Wales.
- 1885 - New South Wales contingent to the Sudan sailed from Sydney. The force was first time Australian troops had served overseas in a purely Australian unit.
- 1942 - World War II: Broome and Wyndham bombed by Japanese aircraft.

- 1967 - Vietnam War: Peter John Badcoe awarded VC for actions in South Vietnam.
